A newlywed couple from Texas has been missing for more than two weeks after taking off on their private plane for their honeymoon. Forrest and Donna Sanco were last seen in the Bahamas, according to local Fox affiliate KDFW, traveling in a 51-year-old Cessna 150. It was the first leg of their honeymoon, and they were bound for Rum Cay but never arrived, friends and relatives told the news channel.

Now their loved ones are scouring the Caribbean looking for clues on their whereabouts, hiring search teams to lead the effort. Forrest and Donna left Fort Worth on Sept. 22 in a 1966 Cessna for their island getaway, friend Jason Fox told NBC affiliate KXAS.

“He ended up buying that plane to go on the trip,” explained Fox. “That was Forrest.”

They made it to Florida and then Freeport in the Bahamas, where they went through customs on Sept. 26, the news channel reported. “That was my last correspondence,” Fox told KXAS.
Forrest mentioned trouble with his plane he’d gotten fixed. “No big deal,” he reportedly emailed to Fox. The last trace, relatives said, was a photo Forrest posted to Instagram during a fuel stop two hours from Rum Cay, KDFW reported.

The couple went to school together and rekindled their romance after reconnecting years later, relatives said. “They recently reunited on Facebook, whirlwind romance, got engaged, began traveling,” Erin Simmons, Donna’s daughter-in-law, told KDFW. “They’ve just been the happiest couple. ”Forrest worked as an engineer for Lockheed in Fort Worth, where Donna recently moved to from Oklahoma.

Government resources have been wrapped up in relief for the hurricanes that pummeled the Bahamas, so private donations have reportedly paid for the search teams. Simmons said they started a GoFundMe to pay for the effort. “With that money, we’ve been able to hire two private search and rescue teams with aircraft and cameras,” Simmons told KDFW on Tuesday. “They’ve been doing flyovers since yesterday and back out today.”

Fox told KXAS he’s poured over the photos with a magnifying glass, holding out hope there will be some sign of his friends. “My biggest fear is we’ll never know, never be found and never know anything,” he told the channel. “We’re just kind of waiting to find him (Forrest) floating on a cooler or whatever, you know?”

problem number 1 finding a gf on facebook and marrying her.

had he not had the gf, he would have had more money for a better plane, like a Cessna 172 or something with two engines like a Baron.

Problem number 2 no girlfriend, no honeymoon in the Bahamas, and probably negating problem number 1, buying an airplane in the first place.

Problem number 3 what fool flies or sails across the ocean without an EPIRB?

    http://epirb.com/how_much_does_it_cost.php

pay $30K for the plane, and don’t get a $600 beacon? really? my ex father in law had an EPIRB on his pontoon boat, in a 10 square mile private lake

Problem number 4 stay away from women.

Aircraft disasters are a set of small cascading failures and consequences of ignoring or reacting incorrectly. In this case, failure number 1 was the man signing up for facebook.

I hope they find them both safe.

    —————– Excerpt from article ————-

“He bought a Cessna 150, reinstated his pilot’s license and planned the trip.”

    ———————————————-

He would have had a medical exam completed and one hour of both ground and flight training which include three (3) take off’s and landings prior to carrying a passenger.

That’s it. Not surprising that there was an issue with a hurried vacation on a new, never flown flight plan.

Hope that something breaks soon and that they are found.

Disregarding the mistaken idea that taking up again with old flame is a great idea…. believe me, the novelty of that wears off real fast.

Issue 1: A Cessna 150 cannot carry two adults, luggage and full tanks without being over gross weight. Forget taking survival equipment like a heavy life raft. The plane was too small in size, range, and load carrying capability for this kind of trip.

Issue 2: The guy hadn’t flown in decades and just got current again. He is ill equipped skill-wise to launch off on a multi-leg, long distance, over water flight, crossing international boundaries.

Issue 3: He just bought the plane a short time prior to making the trip. You don’t launch off anywhere until becoming thoroughly familiar with the airplane and it’s idiosyncrasies. Every airplane that is for sale has something wrong with it.

Issue 4: You don’t cancel a flight plan or flight following until your ass is safely on the ground… especially when flying long distance over water. He did that very thing.

It may be that nothing this guy did was illegal i.e. against Federal Aviation Regulations… however every thing about this endeavor flies in the face of common sense and aeronautical safety risk management.

It is likely that these people will never be found. There is a lot of very shallow water in the Bahamas, there is also a lot more places where it plunges to depths of thousands of feet.

Remember the freighter El Faro which was discovered 15,000 feet deep in the Atlantic Ocean? It was found in the Bahamas Island chain. The Puerto Rico-bound ship foundered in the face of 50-foot waves during Hurricane Joaquin on Oct. 1, 2015.

I pretty sure that the Bermuda Triangle exists in the region between the crotch and both breasts of every woman. It’s a danger zone to be avoided by all mariners and aviators like.
