So I’m looking at getting my first motorcycle, but I’m not sure what’s a good first one.

You see, I know a 1000cc bike is not a good idea for a first time rider- however there seems to be a BIG difference between a 1000cc crotch-rocket and a 1000cc harley style. The crotch-rocket has a top-speed of about 190-210mph, but the harley style ones seem to have a top speed of about 100-120mph.

I’m thinking about either getting a 650cc harley style or a 300cc crotch rocket- or one of those half and half’s like this http://imgur.com/a/D99xe in a 650cc.

The most experience I have riding are my bikes I modified with 80cc engines on em. Got up to 40mph on em, real fun.

Anyway I wanted to ask someone more experienced, so yeah.

Well … I just recently got my license and I learned on a Honda Knighthawk.

But I am partial to the Ducati Monster 696.
I just like the bike for some reason. It’s being replaced by the newer 890.

I am 6’2″ and recently also checked out the GT 1000 and felt it wasn’t too hard to handle or too much bike for me. They also said if it was “too much bike” they would have talked me down to something else, but it felt like a good fit and not threatening.

I like the cafe racer styling.

But I heard the new SCRAMBLER (pictured below) is an excellent starter bike and HIGHLY customizable. I just like the Italian Ducatis, so don’t listen to me. My eye just keeps going back to them. I’m not even sure why. Every once in a while I hop over to Ebay to check them out. I’m just flirting with them from a distance.

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.

Please guys, not to be a know it all but start out on something without the big horespower.

If you do watch your closeing rates. Meaning how fast you bare down on slower traffic or corners. Things can get away from you faster than you realize.
    Only cause I care.

Start small. Yamaha xt225 for a dirt/street. Kawasaki Ninja, it’s a 250 I think. Trade up as you have more experience. Buy used, trade up once a year or so. You don’t need a 100 MPH motorcycle to learn on. I’ve been riding for 40 years, start light, they are easier to handle. Take the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) beginning riders course.

Too many people texting and not looking for a motorcycle. Ride like everyone is out to run you over, some are.
