I know I’m new hear, but I think there are at least a few of us out there that like Anime. I don’t really know where else to post because there’s no real art or media section (understandably so, for the media aspect anyway lmfao) so I decided to post in mgtow central.

So..what’s your favorite anime and why?

Over the years it has kind of changed but the one constant is always One Piece. I loved it since it began reading it back in high school and it is such a good series. The writing is great, I love how it has that over arching bigger plot in the back ground, the characters are awesome, and as a crew the strawhats are some of the coolest people. I also love a lot of Oda’s styles such as giving you a full back story on the characters or place the current story arc is in before the final battle and pretty much having almost every character appear again at some point in the story.

Some other favorites are DBZ, Love Hina, Gundam, Outlaw Star, Sword Art Online, Attack on Titan, and Kill la Kill.

    One Piece is great.
Berserk (If you haven’t seen it don’t. It’s an amazing story that will never end because the author is like George R R Martin only… so much worse).
Cowboy Bebop is the quintessential classic. The pinnacle of anime as an art form.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex seasons 1 and 2 are must-see.
    Great Teacher Onizuka is solid.
Golden Boy – Short and Sweet.
    FLCL – excellent.

Baccano – If you’re willing to put in some effort, this unique story will pay off.
Spice and Wolf is a fun watch if you’re in the mood for some fantasy mercantile romance.
Darker Than Black (Season 1 only) – Japanese Batman crossed with X-Men. Really bad first few episodes, but one of the best series I’ve seen recently.
Gurren Lagann is a slow build to a great ending.
    Trigun wasn’t bad.
Sword Art Onilne hit a lot of my MMO fan buttons. Pretty good.
Seirei no Moribito was a pleasant surprise
    Suzuka hit my buttons
Kids on the Slope worked for me.

Basically anything by Studio Ghibli is worth your time.

There are a hell of a lot of amazing anime OVA’s (movies).
    Ninja Scroll is classic.
Kite is basically porn with an amazing story.
    Wings of Honneamise
    Castle of Cagliostro
The Girl Who Lept Thru Time
Grave of the Fireflies (LOL, JK.)
    Sword of the Stranger
    Millennium Actress
    Tekkon Kinkreet

There are so many more it’s really dependent on what interests you have.

Death Note- I loved that storyline and the character development.

Noragami- only a few episodes in, but the artwork is next-level. If you watch it, note the detail in the way hands are drawn. It’s perfect.

Kaze no Stigma, Psycho-pass, Chaos Head, Kill la Kill were great.

There’s a really good documentary on Netflix right now about the inner workings of Studio Ghibli- too bad they don’t actually have any SG movies on Netflix streaming.

All great anime have been listed. When FLCL first came on Adult Swim I was like “yeah this is my anime, I look forward to watching this through out the year” then my first is like “you know it is only 6 episodes right?”. As much as I love it I still don’t own it. That needs to change lol.

With Sword Art Online the MMO references were even better in the light novel.

@vectorviking Have you seen the live action Death Note movies? There are 2 like how Kill Bill was and they are amazing. They are how do you do live action anime movie right.

My favourites mostly come from more mature series and movies.

Favourite anime movie has to be Jin-Roh – The Wolf Brigade. Story revolves around 60s alternate Earth Japan where Axis won WWII.

Visually the best anime tv series in my memory must be Gankutsuou, loosely based on The Count of Monte Christo in a sci-fi setting. Another sci-fi in more realistic setting that I like is PlanetES. Two favourites in musical anime series: Beck for rock and Nodame Cantabile for classical.

Not that much into historical series, even though there are some real gems out there. Samurai Champloo, Rurouni Kenshin OVA come to mind. Mushishi is my favourite series in supernatural settings; it’s full of amazing small stories. Great Teacher Onizuka for comedy, Usagi Drop for lighthearted drama and Monster for psychological horror.

Anything by Hayao Miyazaki, Makoto Shinkai and especially Satoshi Kon can be recommended without reservations.

Hard to say, especially given I’ve pretty much written off the genre for awhile. The 80’s and 90’s were the golden era for anime. It’s gone to crap since with the billion different DBZ clones making up a huge percentage of the market.

The Children of Doom... Doom's Children. They told my lord the way to the Mountain of Power. They told him to throw down his sword and return to the Earth... Ha! Time enough for the Earth in the grave.

Full Metal Alchemist and Attack On Titan.

FMA: I feel it has a pretty great story, mostly focusing on redemption and brotherhood.

AoT: Feel it’s so powerful because of the animation style and story, I prefer it over DBZ

    “Deep”? 🙂

Naruto is a DBZ clone and nobody ever accused that show of being deep. 😉

Check out Fist of the North Star. Old school but worth watching.

By “deep” I assume he means “lots of episodes”.

If not, yea that’s… really not applicable to either franchise. Although, to be fair, Naruto has a few moments of “deepity” if I can borrow Dan Dennet’s word for things that seem really deep but upon reflection aren’t at all deep.

You’ve probably already seen the following, but if not they might satisfy you:

Darker Than Black (Season 1 only)
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 1 and 2
    Baccano
    Kids on the Slope
Tenga Toppen Gurren Lagann (This one surprised the hell out of me with how good it was).
    Spice and Wolf

    Cheers.
