What is a "real man"?

Today I was thinking about what is a Real Man.

This issue of what constitutes a “real man” is all over the place. It starts being a shamming tool frequently use by women and manginas alike.
It reminds me of the Marty McFly “chicken” problem in the “Back to the Future” movies.

TO WHOM WE TRY TO PROVE ANYTHING?

That is the core of the issue. Who defines what a real man is? Women? Other men?

I would say WE define what a real man is. The question is that WE DONT KNOW…

But “we dont know” as in “we cannot say what it is”, but we sure can tell when we are being a Real Men and when we are being a Chicken.

Today I had a situation where I was the Chicken. Not because of running away from a fight (that I actually did, also: a verbal figth) but because I had a choice between doing the Right Thing or the Selfish Thing.

What is wrong with being selfish, we may ask? Nothing, except when it goes against your core values…

In the “Dorsai!” book of Gordon R. Dickson, the main character, Donal Graeme, says:
“each man is a tool in his own hands”

I think this is as much a definition of a Real Man that there will ever be. Because we are a tool in the sense of a purpose, to perform our own chosen purpose, in free will. And the measure of a man is the measure as he is able to perfect himself as the tool for that purpose.

And we all know what it means to perfect such tool. It means self-control and self-discipline, something that we severely lack in our world in these days.

And I am not talking of the military discipline where by command of others we overcome our limitations. Its the even harder discipline of commanding ourselves, regardless of our momentary desires.

A selserving hedonist man, without a purpose in life, is nothing but a zombie – a living dead.

For it is not death that should be feared, but an eternal life of boredom. And boring it is when we get everything we desire. IT KILLS US!

As a child I had an intense desire for a type of pastry. When I got my first allowance I used to spend it all on that pastry. After some time I could not stand it anymore. I had just killed my pleasure and turned it into a bore.

And then there is this picture in my mind of an old man with a broom. It comes from a karate story that tells the difference between a Japanese and a Westerner (in the past, at least).

Karate a other martial arts exist to teach us discipline, in order to perfect ourselves as a “tool”. Part of this process is to respect those who earn and deserve our respect. And respect needs not to be asked.

So I would ask of you: what is your idea of a Real Man?

Pay attention, anything that shortens your life makes you “more of a real man” including allowing yourself to be shipped off to die in a war as human cannon fodder.

When Bruce Gender first collected a medal, he had to be “the fastest man in the world”. Fast forward 30 years and now he is celebrated, applauded and collected a medal for “courage” and a standing ovation for putting on a dress. That is why I was asking what is it for you personally, if you care to share anything.

And KM, do believe that I have the greatest respect for you. Therefore that answer would interest me, not because I wanted to copy (I do My Own Thing), but because it might be inspiring.

I remember once you saying that a computer is a work tool, and therefore you do not waste time “playing” with the computer.
If THAT is not a lesson in discipline, then I dont know what it is.

Self discipline is a difficult and honorable challange.

I know what you meant and why you asked. But my answer is in the last part I appended after. Even in a dress with makeup and fake t~~~, Bruce/Caitlyn Gender is still a “real man”. Term “Real man” is invented by women. I don’t know about other countries but in my country the phrase “real man” never used among men before – you either man or not. So it’s the first sign of manginas around you if you hear something about real men.
