Just got a driving job, gonna be working in a wearhouse, loading the cube van and delivering documents. I just hope for some change in my life in a positive direction. Two days ago I started an assembly job which I immediately thought of not doing anymore, and took this one instead. Jesus, let the f~~~ing robots do that assembly s~~~!!!

I weighted out some cons and pros for this driving job against the other one, such as:
Salary: min wage vs min wage:
    Shift: truck- days, assembly- afternoons.
Job satisfaction: I LOOOVE driving and play American Truck sim exploring USA!!! On the assembly I was constantly looking at the clock, and thought that jail must feel very similar to this.

What do you guys think, did I make the right decision?

Yes, you made the right decision. I can’t believe a driver job is only minimum wage. Maybe keep looking.

had driving job delivering auto parts all day long .. best part about it .. time on the road and just away from everyone
worst part were those few rare mornings with deliveries not yet scheduled .. had to be at dealership and wait for a route

The only reason for that is because I got hired through an agency. But I applied to different driving jobs, and not many replies cause I have not much experience. I have to start somewhere and then soon enough move up to better positions.Maybe get a commercial truck license, we have DZ/AZ licenses here.

Yeah, that’s what I want. To be on my own, do my own damn job and get paid. OHHHH OHHHHHHHHH!!!! I forgot to mention is that on the assembly job, 90% of the workforce are women 😀

Yeah, assembly work is rough. In high school, I had a job as an “electromechanical assembler” for a medical device company — mostly involved stuffing and soldering circuit boards by hand. All of the other employees doing the actual assembly work were women, and while they were generally pretty good at it, they all were clueless about the theory behind any of the work so they tended to make “simple” mistakes like installing polarized components with the wrong orientation. I was happy to move on to other work… and even if you adjust for inflation, I didn’t get the $15 an hour that people want for flipping burgers!

Yes, you made the better decision.

Dude, the economy is CORRECTING. YOU made the right choice. Its a paying job. Hang onto it and do it well. I’m an industrial designer, still LOOKING for a job after two months being out of work. Most people wont see it coming when it smacks them in the face.

If you enjoy driving you are definatley in the right profession.

Drivers are always in demand in matter what the economy is like.

If you speak English and have half a brain you can have your pick of jobs after you get some experience under your belt.

Keep putting out resumes for higher paying driving jobs because believe me – good drivers are in demand.

I think you made the right decision mate. If you want my advice, progress on this, and save a little to one side to get your trucker’s license. It’ll pay a big wage premium over a lifetime, and you’ll probably enjoy driving trucks on long haul more than a van around town.

I got my UK trucker’s license in 2004 and doubled my salary over one weekend. Best £2k I ever invested as the wage premium over my old min wage jobs since 2004 has been enough to buy a small house cash and certainly helped with the cost of going to uni. Also trucking has given me 14 years so far of choosing my work environment (temperature, music, etc), solitude, and freedom from all the pc HR feminist bulls~~~ infesting the corporate world. Trucking is still very much a down to earth man’s industry. Very much a philosopher’s job. I’ll warn you though, it’s a job few get out of, as it’s a bit of a money trap, and it gets into your blood.

Well here’s a bit of an update. I’m not yet driving, as I’m more of a driver’s helper, which is not a bad thing cause I’m learning from a more experienced dude and notice things otherwise I wouldn’t notice. But the majority of the job is not driving…it’s more of a warehouse thing and requires lifting s~~~, although only 30 lbs. Some of the clients that we deliver the s~~~ to are bitchy, and of course are women…. I remember walking into the office and saying good morning to this chick that was supposed to take my delivery. Then all of a sudden this UPS guys shows up, moves my s~~~ out of his way and start chatting up and flirting with this woman. I’m thinking, what an idiot…

Anyway I would appreciate some advice on this situation. Should I stay in this business, although I’m not even sure if I will get to drive anytime soon. They said I will be a driver lol. Or should I f~~~ of, get a license and driver a big rig? There’s also jobs that require to have a cargo van, and pay UP TO 50K a year. So basically there’s 3 choices. But something tells me that I won’t be staying long term at current location if majority of work is a warehouse. So I may not be able to put much on my resume later on. In essence I think the job ad was false advertisement.

The PRIMARY goal of having a job is to have steady income.

The SECONDARY goal of a job is to enjoy what you do in order to make the work effortless.

Others don’t need to make decisions for you in this regard.

Marry again, Hell NO ! ( Even JESUS was hung on a cross just once)
