I often hear the naive simps cry. Incompetence and the fundamental flaws in ANPR technology, that every security engineer knows about, are the least of your worries.

    Wh0 remembers Hilslbrough, The Birmingham 6, Th3 Guildford 4,…,…,…,…,…,

Big brother surveillance interests me no end. I’ve always had a deep instinctual hatred of it, simply because I value privacy. When I finished my degree, I was seriously considering post-grad studies into surveillance.

I’m a truck driver, and one of the reasons I went into truck driving was the solitude, away from people, away from prying eyes, away from micro-management. But in the last couple of years in-cab cctv cameras facing the driver have become popular. I’ve had the misfotune to drive a couple of trucks with these cameras lately, and though some might laugh when I say this, it’s a final straw for me. These cameras add to a long list of technologies that spy on truck drivers, virtually all of which have been integrated into trucks in the last 10-15 years. It’s phenomenal. Every dab of the brake, the pressure which I squeeze the gas, the length of time I drive, how harsh I’ve taken corners, how many minutes rest I’ve had, how fast I’ve been going, the list is endless. Truck drivers are surveyed more than cat A prisoners. In fact, the original conception of cctv lies in prison architecture – the panopticon, whereby you never know if you’re being watched (by guards in a central tower), so you adjust your behaviour to comply, based on the fear of potential scrutiny.

Man, don’t get me started on this s~~~, otherwise this will be a 50 page thread.

Just to add, the speed limit for an artic (semi) on UK motorways is 60mph. We recently had a driver who received a letter telling him he had driven at 60.28 mph for 1.05 seconds, and warned him to keep an eye on his speed or face disciplinary action. Yes, those who say if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear need to be force fed red pills on a daily basis until they understand how totalitarianism will always creep in if left unchecked. Surveillance rarely benefits those being surveyed.

Yes that’s why the victorians designed Strangeways (HMP Manchester) in the way they did.

Yes, an all powerful, all seeing eye. And 150 years later, here we are, all of us, criminalised through the latest incarnation of prison reform: public cctv.

It would blow most people’s minds if they realised exactly how powerful, how effecient, how advanced cctv is, and how it’s being used, and will be used all over the world. It would also blow their minds if they knew how the iphone 10 palys a huge part in it. It’s beyond disturbing.

I install these things. Plenty of people get fired for zooming in on women and their blouses.

You are all alone. If you have been falsely accused of RAPE, DV, PLEASE let all men know about the people who did this. http://register-her.net/web/guest/home

We have cameras and audio in our buses, I used to resent that and part of me still does. However, it has saved my job more than once over a passenger making false accusations. Government surveillance is a very different thing because nothing is more capable of abusing power than government.

Think of it this way, they pass laws to legalise their own criminality and the the police enforce it.
