Lately I’ve been pondering whether it would be a good purchase to get a Gopro-style wearable video camera just in case. I have the kind of job where I’m out in the community interacting with people on a regular basis. While 99.9% of my interactions are pleasant, I’m concerned about the tiny fraction of people who will use any opportunity to create a scene because of their own biases and hate. If I were asking this question ten or more years ago my reason for asking would have been to protect myself against gaybashers. But in 2019 my concern also revolves around crazed feminists and SJWs, the likes of whom I’ve already encountered during my travels. I live and work in that kind of neighborhood. Naturally I could just whip out my phone and start recording as soon as I realize I’m being cornered, but a dedicated wearable camera might offer me a quicker and more discreet method of protecting myself. Thoughts?
I have been thinking about it as well, watching how fast things can go south ( recent old man attacked – at the hate trump march in London ). Go-pro body cam like the police wear is too big – just rip it off your chest.
( 113485723341 ebay item ) can now get these camera pens £13.50. If you have a shirt or jacket with a breast pocket – ideal, just press the top of the pen to start recording or take a picture & records sound as well.
Take care – jungle out there
Discreet bodycams are now a must, particularly if you have to interact with females. They are just too crazy and too dangerous. I often wear one.
Picture quality in the camera pens is usually adequate, but they tend to fail without warning. I’ve found that they are best avoided.
There are good cameras out there – there’s even one that replaces a button on your shirt. It’s expensive (tax deductible if it’s employment related?), but if the choice is that or going to jail after a false allegation …
Obvious cameras invite hostility and may raise legal issues, whilst whipping out a phone could prompt an attack. They are okay if you are law enforcement, but questionable otherwise.
I think wearing a body camera means you’re paranoid, because it shows you’re afraid of anything that can happen to you, which is rare if at all. Public places have their own cameras.
