My MAC just got infected with its first ever malware. And it came from a Flash Player update that looked real. Be careful out there!

You talking about a “Scareware” update? Never install an update from ANY popup. Always get your updates directly from the original source.

It looked the same message I’d get any other time I needed to update Flash. I’ve had this computer for two years and this is the first time something like this has happened.

The program it installed instead is something called MegaBackup and it’s annoying as f~~~. I read up on it and it’s not the end of the world. But still it’s s~~~ty.

Get rid of Flashplayer anyway. It’s full of security holes because Adobe doesn’t have its s~~~ together. You don’t need it mostly anymore, HTML5 will do. I’ve discarded the Flashplayer years ago, without problems.

Thanks for the info, Rysh. I’ll do just that.

If you’re running Time Machine, you should be able to re-install OS X and restore from your Time Machine previous to the date of the installation of the malware.

Or, you could download Avira (it’s free) and try and eradicate it. But it does make you Mac a bit slow. Panda for Mac isn’t too bad either.

I read that some NSA contractor (referred to as Snowden 2.0) recently leaked the info that NSA somehow uses (I’m assuming real) Java updater to install malware on foreign administration computers

I totally forgot about Time Machine. Thanks Hector.
