ITT: How do you create your characters in RPG, FPS settings?
Thought I’d start a bit of a fun thread by asking you guys how you build your video game characters in RPG FPS settings.
Personally, I go with a Shotgun build in FPS when it’s available. I go with shotguns because they offer a really good punch against a wide variety of enemies. My best shotgun build was in Fallout New Vegas, where I use a Hunting shotgun with all perks and types of ammunition. With a guns skill of 100, I’ve taken down anything I come across. Normally I back up a shotgun with an SMG. I find them pretty reliable in medium to long range firefights and in games where weight plays a factor, they make an effective sidearm, and can normally pack enough of an ammo reserve to shoot your way out of a tight spot. So what about you guys? How do you make your builds?Get the Fuck Up, Brush yourself off, and stand against the current
I play Planetside 2 and generally I run as an engineer or more often as a medic. I let the heavies and max units run in and I take care of rezing them as I pull up behind them. Having the fully automatic shotgun is best for close encounters and clearing out stragglers.

I generally favour Sniper/SMG. Don’t play games that much but i’m a big Borderlands fan, love my crowd control grenades.

In the original Borderlands, the only one I like anymore, I like Lilith. SMG’s and elemental effects combined are my style. Of course, she is the character with the perks that suit that preference.
I play chess. I like white’s Ruy Lopez opening and black’s king’s Indian or Sicilian defenses. I tried to bring a shotgun once, but the organizers made me leave it behind, or they wouldn’t let me in.

I’ve always been a fan of either the “juggernaut” characters (the hulking, big, strong, slow characters that can take a beating before going down) that would usually involve a shotgun or some strong firearm like that, or the sniper when I feel devious and I feeling like hiding and making people go crazy as to where I’m shooting from.
Then again, in RPGs that are more fantasy-based, I’m mostly in the “intelligence” or “thieving” field as an archer. Not so much magic use unless it’s white magic (for healing, etc). Kind of like Robin Hood with healing powers…and if possible I choose being an elf. 😛

Yes i liked Lilith, and Maya (kind of preferred Maya’s Phaselock to Lil’s Phasewalk.) I agree BL1 is the best. Smaller and tighter game, and no compulsion to do endless farming.

Yes, someone who remembers the good old days. When loot chest provided good loot, enemies weren’t bullet sponges, legendary weapons were obtainable without grinding a boss 50 times, and internet meme jokes didn’t litter the franchise.
I also played Maya in the second game, but I hated the end game. Once you get to ultimate hunter mode, weapons become outdated once you’ve gained a couple of levels. Then the game after that was a waste of my money (its named shall not be typed here). I actually prefer Lilith’s phase walk because it helps me progress through the game much faster. After my third play through of the story, I was more than happy to have it.
Playing Fallout 4, I usually carry around a .45 sniper rifle with scope, and a 10 mm gun, all modified to the max. Yesterday I took down a couple of Behemoths for a quest, and did pretty good. In Fallout 3, you had to use a mini-nuke to take down a Behemoth…..
Edit. At 199 hours gameplay at present, beginning Nov 10. when it was released (level 53).

If possible with the game mechanics, I usually play close-range, mobile characters, with long-ranged “backup”. In something like Fallout, I use shotguns along with a sniper rifle for pot shots or thinning the ranks. In something like Skyrim, I play a spellsword or some variant thereof; fast melee attack, good mobility, and magic for that extra versatility. I like to hit fast and hard then retreat and manoeuvre, rinse and repeat; skirmish mode.

Anonymous3I usually try a few different builds, to see what works well in that game. But I usually keep things simple, opting to do maximum damage in a quick time without complications, so as to stay versatile and not get shut down by enemies as easily.
I used to use shotguns in games, going way back to Doom, but in more modern games it seems like assault rifles are generally the way to go.
For Fallout, depends on what is good in it. For 3 it’s mostly energy weapons. For NV it’s mostly unarmed, with energy to snipe with, and that’s really for deathclaws.
For fighting games I generally aim more for offensive characters, good mobility, good priority and solid damage.
RPGs generally don’t let you pick too much, but I usually just opt for high damaging simple attacks and some buffs rather than fancy spells and such.
I prefer 6 beam lasers all slaved together, with a tractor to bring them in from 15 km, then salvage the wrecks. Sometimes I will switch out the tractor for a cloak if I want to do some probing.
I like something that can be used at close quarters – a weapon with a bayonet or a rifle butt attack – barring that, shotguns do indeed make great close quarter weapons. Maybe a Deagle as a sidearm for longer range.
Anonymous0Disclaimer: I am MOBA trash. I play Dota.
I usually play Support, but lately I’ve been getting into playing Lina (Hero that is able to basically oneshot just about everything with the right build) so that’s been fun.

I too am MOBA trash! I’m awful with lina I actualy make her look underpowered.
ME ? Long live the Meepos! Evidence that 5 hamsters can f~~~ stuff up.
But for Fps’s its a logistical role if I’m leading a squad but for pure fun its the agile light frame.

I can respect a good Meepo Player. I dont have the micro skills to make it work.
I don’t normally play FPS. But when I do, I use Sniper Rifle for medium to long ranges and Shotgun for up close and personal. I do however play lots of RPGs. At first with any new RPG that has a class system, I do a lot of experimentation. And I quickly gravitate towards the build that does highest DPS. And that differs from game to game.
