Like a few of the MGTOWs ’round these parts, I do a fair bit of vegetable gardening. I got sick of paying for/using city water a long time ago, and primarily use rain-water when I can.

I like Saturdays for doing stuff around the property, so yesterday I inserted another downspout into a gutter for my rain barrels. I just do the gutter in four foot sections, each on their own grade; like several “V’s” in a row that feed the downspouts. When there’s a good downpour, they fill up remarkably fast. I’ve got 7 of them on the go now, and it really helps for watering the garden vs. paying for water. I was getting sick of filling up cans manually to water vegetables, so yesterday I mounted an old submersible pump I had out in the garage onto a simple cross member that I flux-welded together. Now I just rest the cross-member across the top of the barrel, and the tail of the pump goes into the barrel. I attached one hose to the intake so it reaches the bottom of the barrel, and attached an X-Hose at the discharge, so that it collapses when not under pressure. I just wired a simple switch at the input, so when I flick it on, it sucks the water out of the rainbarrel and fires it out at a pretty good rate. The pump is rated at 1450 GPH@20ft or something like that. Works like a charm.

Now I can just move the assembly from barrel to barrel with an extension cord and water like crazy. I’ve just been adding some emulsion to the water for minerals and it seems to have been pretty good this year, at least for the tomatoes and squash anyway. I think next year I’ll maybe elevate the barrels enough above the plane of level, and run some type of soaker hose so that it’s pure gravity feed, and won’t have to use electricity either.

The sump is working great though!

I have friends who are avid gardeners. They say rainwater always works best. The chlorine in the city water does plants no good.

Society asks MGTOWs: Why are you not making more tax-slaves?

Here in the UK the water that falls from the sky is not ours. It’s the water companies.

I laughed when I first was told …. sounded redonculus … but it’s true. They can legally charge or fine you for storing it in barrel. ?

The same law(s) exist in Colorado. See article below.

    SMH. Just………..shaking my head.

I’m buying two more. Good god, I wonder how long it will be before this sort of injustice is legislated here.

I wonder if I should check if I need a permit to get some sunshine today. It is, after all, a solar resource to be harvested for energy. I might well be unscrupulously taking away from a precious supply of energy.

We should probably make sure the trees aren’t stealing water and sunlight. Clearly, they would be the worst offenders, the leafy bastards.
