    Gentlemen I need some advice.
After being unemployed for several months, I have now received 3 offerings almost simultaneously.
One would require me to move to Kettle, Louisiana. I have no idea yet, but a C1/D visa. what about living there? Living expenses, people attitudes, distances….anything you know will help. If you’re from Louisiana, sell it to me.

Second offer is near London, UK. Job is has a starting salary around 45k£. But London has a reputation for being extremely expensive. Will 45k£ be enough for a decent living?

Third is worst paid but most probably the easiest option. The pay is horrible, but a pretty safe longterm job and I do like the women down there.

    So what do you think?

I would take the Louisiana job. UK will take too much money and you cannot defend yourself there. Same with carribean, plus you cant earn as much and anything you need from mainland is more expensive.

Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.

Thanks for your quick reply. I’ll leave this threat open for discussion for 24 hrs and hope to collect a few opinions.

Stay in the states. Stay out of the UK, besides the Price of everything in the UK. They have an immigrant problem from what I hear and if you have an issue and try to defend yourself your f~~~ed. I think you would enjoy life much more in the states and regarding your third choice. AWALT. Stay away from the women. They will only drain you of your resources and you will get screwed in the long run. Good Luck… Rogue

Where the hell is Kettle, Louisiana?

I’ve spent time in the southeast US myself, and if you were anywhere near New Orleans or maybe Baton Rouge and were getting a decent paycheck, then it could be a lot of fun.

But I tried to find Kettle, LA and it wasn’t listed on maps or in Wikipedia. So there’s no telling where in the state that would put you.

Renting in central London is extremely difficult and incredibly expensive. It’s also very dangerous.

You might however rent outside and commute in – there are many possibilities within a 60 minute commute.

Third is worst paid but most probably the easiest option. The pay is horrible, but a pretty safe longterm job and I do like the women down there.

In which case, this is obviously the job NOT to take.

First take the pay and divide it by the cost of living in each potential s~~~ty you are considering residence in. Then compare them crapples-to-crapples. Money is not the only factor but you want to compare them objectively.

As for crime, the US violent crime rate is far higher than the UK… But in either case, unless you live Thug Life, it is unlikely to impact you. I reside in the US and have visited Louisiana.

Work is a major part of lifestyle. Where you live provides the options for downtime.

I’d pick a location that suit’s your hobbies, indoor or outdoor recreation or even preferred climate, infrastructure and pace of life (city living etc).

I’ve found to be just as happy earning less money but working easy enjoyable jobs. I’d rather not dread getting out of bed in the morning to make bank than earn a little more and be watching the clock all day.

Also consider your options if the jobs don’t work out, or better prospects down the track. Your job history can open doors after you move on.

Live in Louisiana while you plot your vacations and retirement in the Caribbean.

    Wow what a choice!

Well I’m a Brit and I’ve lived in a few places, both in Europe and around the UK. £45k p/a in the London area won’t get you too far. Rentals in the Home Counties (that’s the counties that surround London) tend to be quite high, sometimes as much as £1200 per month for something quite basic. So already you’re down to £33-35k. Minus all of your taxes and you’ll be in the £20ks. Add to that an abysmal transport system and third world road network (when I visited friends near London last year the last bus on a Saturday afternoon to the town three miles away was 4pm!)and it really puts things in perspective.

The only parts of the UK where £45k is going to be a good amount would be the northern half of the UK, most of Wales, and southern Scotland.

The lifestyle here is pretty crap. I’ve lived and worked in Ireland, Netherlands, Spain and Greece. UK is bottom of the list in terms of lifestyle, value for money, weather, taxation and cronyism.

I wouldn’t bother with the UK mate.

The USA on the other hand offers you opportunities and career progression. We don’t do those things over here mate, it’s just nepotism and cronyism in the workplace.

Eliminate the Caribbean option because you don’t want to have a low-paying job and live in a s~~~hole country. The UK job doesn’t pay much compared to the cost of living. As for Louisiana, I’m not sure where Kettle is or what the salary would be, but it’s probably your best option. Good luck!

Not in London-no chance. In other parts of the country if you are single with no dependents that’s not bad money.

You won’t be able to buy anything in London to live in a very high percentage of your salary will go on renting a studio flat in a bad part of town.

If you want to go for London I would do what I did live out in Uxbridge and get the metropolitan line in to central London but trust me the tube is not pleasant even if you are not normally claustrophobic.

This will give you an idea of prices in London…

You would then have to pay to park your car someewhere, people make living trading car parking spaces whish I have seen sold for over £100,000 in London.

I used to earn a base salary of £35,000 living in Manchester.

    Near London, or London?

Depends what your transport needs are and on how you’re willing to live. You could rent a room for £400-£700 a month all bills included, and have a decent whack left over from £45k.

I’m a Brit and I don’t particularly love the UK lifestyle, so I would take Louisiana if I had your choice.

Caribbeans are the only ones permitted to own property in the Caribbean, you’re automatically reduced to 2nd class citizen and most those islands have become third world s~~~holes, especially places like Nassau where independence was achieved only to destroy the jewel of the Caribbean, idiots now rule and run amuck! AVOID!

I went on holiday to Grand Bamhama (capital is Freeport) in I think about 1996 stayed at the Xanadu and they were in the middle of a civil war or something the hotel gates had guards with machine guns then all the locals were trying to sell me cans of coca cola form their side of the fence on the beach because normally a can of coca cola was 5 dollars.

Had been in Florida for a week and got a fcuked old laker airways plane all ozone gas started coming in through the vents when we landed.

Some old local TUNA used to sit on the path from the hotel to the beach shouting girlfriend, girlfriend =brades for your hair my lovely yo girlfriend to any passing tourist TUNA – then I nearly got attacked by a shark when i wnet on windsurfer. Everyone, many thanks for the heads up!

    Stay in the states.

    – Bro’, I’m eligable for and need an H1-B visa, I contacted the company, they are working on it, even if they weren’t to happy for the administrative burden I placed on them. Issuing date is April, 1st, but there are only approx 65.000 handed out each year. Let’s see what will happen.

Where the hell is Kettle, Louisiana?

    – I chose a (fictional)name to indicate a some small village. It’s a smaller town less than 100 miles from St. Louis.

    Near London, or London?

    – it would have been within the London area, but considering the advise I got here, I will write them a mail and politely decline. I was wondering already, why they were hiring forgeiners for the position in question, but it got clearer when the replies here showed up. Most probably they can’t find an englishmen to work for what they are willing to pay. This also goes along with my expectations, so London is out.

The Carribean thing has the big disadvantage of low sallary, and even if living expenses are lower, it is much easier to save from what one has earned than to create out of thin air.

as of now, it seems my American Brothers will get another immigrant 😉

What about newzealand . The cousy bros down there for work . Bottom of the world .

    – why not? got a job? Diploma in economics (equals Bachelor degree), maritime background, some specialist knowledge. Speak German, English, Dutch, Spanish and French (in declining order).
    Last job paid roundabout 75k € per annum (approximately = 90k $US / 65k £). But willing to settle for anything around 60k € / 70k $US / 100k $NZ.
got something? feel free to mail muglintar@gmail.com

I love my city, but I hate what my country is turning into, so I’m seriously planning to leave.

divorce is settled, with finally the house being sold, my parents are dead, my son I haven’t talked to or seen in 4 years, my little sis in more than 3 years. so it’s virtually no relatives, and just a few friends I made over the last few years. There is nothing holding me back, home is… dunno, unkown concept to me.
