What is the longest any of you have gone with turning it all off? By this I mean Internet, news in all forms, T.V., and Movies. What is the longest stretch post Internet creation that any of you have gone, how did it feel, and why did you do it?

Unfortunately, those I seek insight from the most certainly won’t be here…

Uhhhhh…camping? I don’t get the question. I camped, it was boring, and I ate s~~~ food. Hot dogs and Mt. Dew aren’t exactly part of a healthful diet, if you know what I’m sayin’.

A few years ago, the situation at work got too much. I went camping in the mountains for about a week. Spent a few days out there.

Its an amazing feeling, like hitting the reset button. Brings everything into perspective. I need to do that again soon. Except longer next time…maybe permanently next time.

Before that we lost power for about 4 days during the great black out. That’s an experience, but nothing like being a 2 day hike from civilization. There is something powerful about the remoteness of the Mountains.

I crashed my websites, then went to Vermont for a decade building a house. When I came back online everything had changed, it got weirder!

I’ll never subscribe to TV again! Not even for FREE! And yes, I had satellite hacking gear and got all the channels all the time for $0.00 a month!

Not even for FREE will I subject myself to that mind altering torture!

Movies have finally caught up with the rest of dogs~~~ media and I don’t buy them anymore! I’m sick and f~~~ing tired of Wonder C~~~ and Mangina to the rescue!

Turning it all off for me is not going without entertainment .. but rather .. turning within.

I quit external television “cable, satellite and antenna” about fifteen years ago. An occasional youtube video is the only contact remaining.

.. yet, I watch programs and concerts on dvd.

I’d really miss the recordings of music, movies and some of my favorite old sci-fi programs.

When I cut the cable and took down the aerials .. cut the connection to the outside television world .. I’d read that it was like going ‘cold turkey’ and it would hurt.
It didn’t .. the biggest benefit was no more commercials and more free time.

I go on about time . We don’t realise how time is a program . Down to minutes for work and seconds .

I once thought long ago one night . They come home from work watch tv eat a dinner go to bed get up for work . Gotta to pay powerbill , house payments , credit cards and so on . Wanting wanting wanting . Taking up space in there minds of the material things they crave . Never enough . Same with sex and love . Everybody wants to be loved and excepted .

It’s not the length of time that you switch off that is important. Just go out into nature, close your eyes, listen to the sounds there. Smell the air in a forest. Focus on it, block all other things out. Think about the cycles in nature. Create your own form of meditation like that.
Hell, if you live near the sea, just listen to the waves crashing.
It should switch you off for a while. If not, you’re doing it wrong or you’ll need to find another method that works for you.

Permanently no tv btw, to answer your question.
News only rarely on the internet, but most is western media propaganda, so most can be ignored.
