I know there is a thread about the bill already but I didn’t see any mention of this.

Congress’ giant tax overhaul is poised to reach virtually every corner of American life — even Splitsville.
President Donald Trump signed Congress’ giant tax overhaul on Friday, including a provision that scraps a 75-year-old tax deduction for alimony payments.

The new rules won’t affect anyone who divorces or signs a separation agreement before 2019.

After that, the spouse paying alimony can’t deduct it, but the spouse receiving the money no longer has to pay taxes on it.

Congressional tax writers say the change is only fair to married couples.

Many divorce experts worry it will make negotiations tougher and lead to less spousal support as cash goes to taxes instead. They say the current setup helps exes handle the expenses of running separate households.

Why would it be fair to married couples?
To me it seems like another way to f~~~ over divorced dudes and feed the divorce monster.

OTOH, it is in the news so more dudes are reminded that marriage leads to divorce which leads to a dude getting f~~~ed.

Damn, they’ve just got “experts” on every freakin field now. Don’t they? lol
So you’ll still be paying vaginamony but more of the money will be taxed resulting in less going to the bitch?

I don’t understand the mechanics of what money is going to who? So the same amount goes to the bitch, but the man has to pay taxes on it? That’s my reading, which screws the man.

    Can you give an example?

Anytime an article uses the word “experts” they are making up whatever is in the sentence.

It makes alimony that much worse for men, but also acts as yet another reason that men should avoid marriage. Double edged sword if you ask me.

Basically what I was getting at lol. It’s humorous that they never say exactly who these “experts” are. They’re never ever identified for verification by the general public.

GOOD! I’ll never understand why a man would want to anyways. Avoid anything that the government has their hands in/on.

This totally screws the spouse paying alimony.

And the spouse receiving it doesnt have to pay taxes on it?

    Its a double screw.

WTF Trump? I know hes not mgtow, but more of a power alpha, but this is crapping on the guys who put him in.

Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.

There’s a lot of debate about this. It’s not entirely clear who benefits, other than the government. From a different article:

Critics fear that without the deduction, higher-earning spouses won’t pay as much to their exes. New York City matrimonial lawyer Malcolm S. Taub foresees future alimony recipients losing 10 to 15 percent of what they’d get under the current law.

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/gop-tax-overhaul-how-it-would-alter-alimony/

If the fact that alimony payments are non deductible means the man pays a lower amount, his gross payment remains the same, but the recipient receives less, while the government gains more.

The question is, will judges see it that way? Or will they require the same payments as they would have before the bill? In the end, I don’t think the law changes much. The judge will rework alimony payments to ensure that regardless of any laws, the man is screwed and the woman is flooded with money to the greatest possible extent.

If your alimony was determined before 2019, you can continue to deduct the payments as usual. This treatment will make it unnecessary for all of the current alimony payers to spend money on lawyers to renegotiate their payments in state courts.
2019 and later divorces will be negotiated based on the newer federal law. In the past, when alimony was negotiated, women normally received the husband’s anticipated tax benefit from the payments.
DJT knows a lot about alimony, and (imho), he saved millions of men the costs of going back to state courts for pre-2019 divorces.

EDIT : Once divorce attorneys ‘cabbage on’ to the new rules, women will (should) take the hit. The problem is that most divorce attorneys (that I’ve known) are the ‘D students’ of the profession.

Alimony should be tax deductible, period.

Know when it is your duty to give them zero explanations for your actions.

    Roger.
Thinking about making that into a stick. Been gettin’ an awful lot of thumb ups from guys and middle fingers from bitches with my “No Wife, No Strife” stickers.

Would like to plaster “UNC~~~” on the back of the truck but that might be a little too extreme…what do you think?

Good I want to see these men put under so much pressure they begin to fight. Alimony is legalized slavery and it stops when men strengthen their pimp hand and put an end to it. Push a blue pill man hard enough and they either crack or go red pill.

A MGTOW is a man who is not a woman's bitch!
