Also, many large retail chain store are on the verge of bankruptcy. And small stores are not going take the risk.
The recent revelations on how vulnerable electronics are would decrease the trust in an electronic currency. Such trust is needed for it to be used.
Abolishing currency in the U.S. requires more than a few bureaucrats approving a measure. Also, there is the fact that many people whom do not trust the government are armed. Outlawing wealth is a quick way to start a revolution.
Also, in this political climate, if greenbacks are outlawed the states will issue their own currencies.
And before you say “but it will be the law”, keep in mind Obamacare made it a crime to not have health insurance and tens of millions of people decided to ignore that law instead of being defrauded by the insurance companies.

Have a dual citizenship / permanent residency in another country so you can escape if SHTF.
