Hey fellas,
Here’s a bit of an update on my situation. Basically current job is more of a plantation job. I don’t drive, and I’m more as a helper(bitch, slave etc). Anyway I saw an ad for a van driver-owner operator job. I’d do runs from Canacuckestan to US-Ohio, but not sure how far. They say 8k a month. But considering lease, fuel and other expenses, it will be more like 4-5 k or even lower. But it’s a better job, meaning I do the driving and for long haul which is what I love. Here’s a problem: pot usage.
Now, the US border agents ban anyone with past pot history. I actually have statements on my bank account saying I made a transaction in a store, but after legalization. I also worked in the industry. I don’t smoke or use pot on regular basis, but this can get me banned for life from what I understand. So the question is, should I even try for it? If I do, than that means dumping current job, taking a lease and insurance and risking getting banned for life. Let’s see how many pros vs cons and yays or nays.

But I also have a choice to go for 2-3 month of actual truck driving school. But that will put a dent in my employment, as I won’t be able to have this on my resume, and I started in December with last job ending in late October. The thing is with this license there’s more jobs out there, and either provincial or national deliveries. So what should I do?

It’s only a plantation job if you have a woman on your back.
The US-Canada job:
(1) Have you checked the small print? Is there actually a contract, or are you just on call?
(2) You are an outside contractor, not an employee. Few rights.
(3) It’s not reliable.
(4) Significant financial outlay. No guranteed return.
(3) Dope will be a serious problem (you say ‘not regular’?).Driving school:
(1) Significant financial outlay. Return very likely.
(2) Looks good on CV. Regular companies don’t want to entrust their rigs to complete unknowns.
(3) Universally recognised qualification (be sure to pick a recognised school, not a diploma mill).
(4) What will you live on in the meantime? May need to work part time. It’s only a plantation job if you have a woman on your back.

I’m just thinking if I should be putting my current work job on a resume, but it has only been 1 month since I started working as a driver/helper.
I do however like the fact that I wouldn’t have to spend money of driving school, and drive that van. They indeed are offering contracts, and will find out more details after New Years.

Monk hit the nail on its head.
If I were you, I would go into trucking school, for that license. The return is more guaranteed, and you will end doing your long hauls, anyway.
You will have to outlay more money upfront, and you will have up to 3 months of hard times, a little bit more until you can find job, but you will have more options, and a better CV.
Hope you find how you are going to do that, pretty soon, Russky2!

Great advice so far. My hat’s off to you Russky2 for planning and being willing to do the work to improve yourself. Good luck with however you choose to go!
We just don't realize life's most significant events while they're happening. Back then, I thought, "Well, there'll be other days". I didn't realize that that was the only day. - "Moonlight" Graham

Is this your first job on the trade? If it is not, then erase it from your resume. If it is, then leave it on, and clearly state to the other company why you have done what you will do.

Dudes, thanks so much. I have this burning desire to go into trucking and will do so, very soon. Once I’m on the roads doing long haul, I will be putting up pics. At my current job, the manager is a female. That’s not really a problem, because she is relatively cool. The problem is the warehouse work, which I don’t even want to do for an hour. I’m definitely going for the license.
And yeah, this current job is the first in it’s trade (driving), so I guess I will put it on a resume and say that I didn’t like the short haul and s~~~ money so hence I’m into trucking. I also have some mobile patrol, basically parking lot patrol, but that was part of the security job and did it once a day or so.

Russky…..
If you realllly wanna do long-haul trucking, get with a trucking firm. They offer FREE driver training, but it is not really free. You have to sign a contract stating once a qualified driver, you have to stay with them for like 2 years. If you really enjoy over the road trucking, this may not bother you at all. After the 2yrs, you can move on as the other companies regularly poach each other for drivers.
I won’t post any links….. just Google “student truck driving+company” and you will get a search for trucking companies that do it this way.
BEWARE: there are several You Tube videos of some unhappy people doing long-haul.
P.S.
Is that Trumps head on the body in your Avatar ??
Marry again, Hell NO ! ( Even JESUS was hung on a cross just once)
