This past winter I would go to a local ma and PA diner for breakfast every Sunday. It has a small town atmosphere even though the population is twenty thousand. Two older couples were sitting in the booth next to me one Sunday morning. They were talking about this bum that walks aimlessly around town. I knew who they were talking about. I know him well.

This so-called bum served two tours in Vietnam. This bum worked 30 years for the Federal Government. This bum owns oceanfront property and occasionally rents it out. This bum owns a 70,000 dollar vehicle that he keeps in storage. This bum most likely has a big fat Government pension. I have to admit it was sure a funny conversation to hear.

He’s a 75 year old Veteran that has done quite well but chooses not to show his cards. He looks maybe 60. I finished my breakfast and walked out laughing inside. People like that don’t deserve to know the truth. All I can say is if that is how a “bum” lives then sign me up ASAP.

Golden! There is no point trying to convince them of their warped view. Walk away.

I’ve known him since I was a kid. He’s been retired for 20 years and does whatever he wants. I went to school with his kids. He’s anything but a bum. I find out every day how f~~~in stupid people are. Scary.

One person’s bum is another person’s success story.

I assume he isn’t attached to some harpy and “consuming” all of the time.

Do you know which houses tend to get robbed and which type of cars tend to get stolen? The flashy ones. A lot of flashy houses and cars are owned or rather being paid off by people who can’t really afford them.

When they get robbed or their houses burn down they tend to be really f~~~ed up because one of the things they had to skimp on to make the payments were things like…… Insurance.

I wonder if the ‘bum’ ever sits around eating breakfast talking about the miserable older couples in town?

@bstoff. He outlived his wife. He really didn’t start buying spendy cars until after she died about 15 years ago. She seemed to have her hands on the cash so he couldn’t spend it. Nothing new.

A lot of wealthy people go incognito. Some announce themselves as VIP’s. It’s all about your self esteem.

They spend their time judging, I bet a beer that this guys spend his time doing something good for himself, like resting, doing what he wants, enjoying everything…

I live surrounded by people who judge others based on what they have, or what they look that they have. This remind me of this quote from Fight Club

We buy things we don’t need, to impress people we don’t like

Good for him! He is set financially, I figure he isn’t suffering from mental illness? If so, he is living the life. I wonder if people give him change, though.

And this is exactly why I don’t show my own cards. I could only hope to be that well off when I’m his age.

Most of the millionares I have met are very low profile people. You do not get rich by writing checks, buying cars and fancy clothes.

Sounds like the old couple are jealous. Not too abnormal for people to disapprove how someone else chooses to live. I live a simple lifestyle and my neighbors always offered me unsolicited advise, I suppose thinking I couldn’t afford certain things. When I retired at 55 I noticed a change in everyone’s attitude towards me.

I’ve always been of the opinion that either you can look rich or be rich. They have a saying in Texas: Big hat, no cattle. I don’t have a big hat but lots of cattle.

So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains and we never even know we have the key. Eagles

Yeah but this is the problem. Those people that are bitching about him, hes not ghosting them, they hate him and could very well choose to get him in trouble. Its a perfect example of a guy ghosting, but still picking up unwanted attention. Thats why you cannot just ghost and assume you minimizing contacts will keep you out of trouble.
