Walked in to a bar to have a late lunch and a few beers a few hours ago.

I sit at the bar for almost ten minutes before the bartender comes to take my order and ask what I want. There were a total of 3 people at the bar who already had their drinks and she was caught up chatting with a fellow bartender while I’m sitting there in plain view. Rather then complain, I just take note of it, check my phone, and start counting the time.

As she walks up, a grimace on her face and not a trace of friendliness, she asks what I want. No hello, no greeting of any kind, nothing. At this point it was already a done deal. She serves the food and drink, doesn’t ask a single time how it is, makes no effort to make any form of small talk (in an essentially empty bar), nada.

Fast forward 45 minutes, a bacon cheeseburger and 3 brews later, I sign the check, Cross out the Tip section and as I’m getting up to leave, she barks at me asking why I didn’t tip her. “You know it’s illegal not to tip right?” she adds in a high pitched annoyed tone.

With a big grin on my face, I look up from my phone, say “Oh, you’re right Sorry about that”. Then tipped the brim of my Jets hat, turned around and walked out.

Unfortunately, she didn’t get it as she just stood there with a confused look on her face and walked out…

The entitlement continues to live on in these young, attractive women and it never ceases to amaze. Why even take the time to bother explaining it to them? It only gives them the chance to argue and bitch One at a time, I’ll knock them off their pedestals.

Un-f~~~ing-believable. Illegal not to tip? What an entitled little bitch. She only has that job because “vagina”. She’s there to look cute, flirt with the sad sacks perched on their stools, and up-sell them. God forbid she actually does her job efficiently.

I’ve an old friend in the bar/restaurant industry. He was basically born into it. His father is a European-trained chef, his parents ran a combined take-out & delivery, restaurant, and bar for decades. He runs a sports bar and nightclub there now. Not too many years ago, bartenders were always men and my friend longs for those days. If he never had to hire another young woman he’d die happy. Unfortunately, customers expect to waited on by cute young women no matter how poorly the service may be.

It’s just another profession women have f~~~ed up.

I dread when a waitress is assigned to my table when I dine out…the service usually sucks compared to waiters. I stopped being a sucker and leaving good tips for bad service…will leave 25% for exceptional service but will stiff them if deserved.

Yep, if there was a lot of people, I’d expect waiting, so I wouldn’t complain. But only a handful and she couldn’t be bothered is rude. You’re right to cross out on the tab. And when she whined, you should have added “it’s rude to not serve people when they come to the bar”. She obviously doesn’t have manners.

Good for you, man! I would have done the same thing. I used to work in the restaurant industry myself and there are some entitled young women that just don’t know any better. It’s sad, but true. She will hit the wall someday.

More than 20 years ago I used to go to this bar. I was a regular at the bar for a few months. I order a beer from a waitresses and I waited over 1 1/2hrs for the beer. I wasn’t happy, when I did tip her I usually tip her about $1.50 to $2 for a beer than costs around $5.50. So when she brought finally brought me the beer I wasn’t really in the mood to drink it. She waited for me to tip and I told her I can’t tip her because she brought the drink later. She started complaining so I gave her a dime. Eventually I got fed up and ended up going to another bar because I was tired of her attitude.
Considering I was giving more than 15% tip she shouldn’t be complaining in the first place.

Same here, and yet another good reason to change venues. I will put up with bad service once, and only once, and after that it’s off to a new bar or restaurant. I’m a better cook than most of them anyway. Why should I waste my good time and money on average food and bad service?

My personal opinion is tipping should be eliminated entirely.
Service staff should be paid an hourly wage, instead of customers setting an arbitrary reward/punishment for good/bad service.

I’ve heard service staff say “Those tables didn’t tip much because they’re cheap.”
I’ve never heard them say “Those tables didn’t tip much because I gave them poor/bad service.”

If service staff gives you bad service, speak with the manager, and let them know about the poor/bad service.
It’s the manager’s responsibility to hire/maintain service staff that will provide good service, and get rid of those that don’t.
