IP banning is highly ineffective. Since it is quite easy to assume another one.

I heard that unplugging your cable modem for 20 minutes changes your IP address, much like the way dialup would give you a new socket if you log off then log back on.

Unless someone buy’s a static IP from their ISP ip ban’s don’t really work.

I imagine that probably works on ISP’s issuing a IP addresses from a DHCP server with a short lease.
