I posted about a week ago that neighbors were complaining about my surround system volume. I haven’t had my sound system on for over a week and just received a notice that I have 10 days to comply with turning down the volume or I will be evicted. I am down to tv sound only now. I will not live with headphones on my head. I am going to call the landlord Monday and let them know I refuse to be harassed over my tv volume as I’m paying for my place and will watch my tv at anytime of day or night without harassment which I consider this to be. I am going to demand that they bring an SPL meter and measure the volume in neighbors apartment and that we go by state law, not the arbitrary complaints of neighbors. I am pretty p~~~ed off about this because it cost me a lot of money to move the first time and I have no intention of doing it again especially over my tv volume.

Yeah take them to court because the land lord can’t just kick you out without any proof. Did you get it a written notice?

I often got complaints where I live over noise that other tenants make.  I remember one who did woodworking in the apartment above me and I got the neighbours below complaining.  Another time, new carpet was being installed one or two floors above me and someone from the unit below me (a different one) banged on my door and proceeded to chew me out.

Most people don’t bother checking for where the source of the noise actually is.  One reason is that they have no idea about structural engineering and that, in some building designs, sounds tend to travel preferentially in certain directions and not in others.  But that’s never stopped anyone from complaining or for the apartment complex manager making rather rude inquiries.

    Some people….ya know?

Had a neighbor file a complaint against me once because my dog was apparently “bothering her.”  Never got an apology from her when the truth came out – that I didn’t even have a dog.  Her husband did come over, though, to apologize for her, and explained that his wife was an ornery psychotic bitch (almost verbatim).

Have a friend in an apartment who got a complaint against her with a landlord because the neighbor below “could hear the cat upstairs walking around the apartment.”  I s~~~ you not.  I am talking about a 9 pound kitty-cat.  The f~~~ing neighbor complained about a cat walking.

People are f~~~ing nuts, and in both of these instances it was women who filed the complaint … predictably.

I got a written notice, and right after I got the notice I received a text message from the neighbor asking me to turn my tv down because he doesn’t want to hear my tv anymore and this was at 1:30 in the afternoon. ..This f~~~er is there 24/7. I said no, and neighbor said he’s going to take it up with management. It is clear he’s trying to force me to headphones and I refuse to wear them for tv watching.

Here’s the deal, I don’t want to be a nuisance but I pay for this apartment as much as the neighbor pays for his and I don’t want to continually worry about tv volume.  I want it at a level I can hear it comfortably 24 hours a day. This will have to be settled with a SPL meter.

Go by the law and do not back down. You give someone the message that they can push you around, they will.

Had a neighbor in Ft. Lauderdale once, bitch used to blast music late night with no regard for me or anyone, so I walked over and told her to turn it down, she does but then flips on the vindictive c~~~ switch. Then I started having random police officers knocking on my door, saying that they have a complaint of someone selling drugs at this location, each time I’d just say no officer and never open the door as I’m aware of my rights. Then the bitch would have her dog s~~~ around my property line. This woman was like the biggest taddle tale snitch on the planet.

Drag them to court, let their asses know that you won’t take their b.s. there will be repercussions. Some people are just miserable with nothing better to do than cause despair.

It’s not them (guy and his girlfriend) I’m worried about. It’s the management company that’s giving me 10 days for compliance or I’m convicted. I can hear his s~~~ as I’m typing this. I’m going to go to the management company Monday and submit a written complaint that I’m being harassed for listening to my tv at a volume I can comfortably hear, and demand they come to my place to listen to it here and his apartment.

That’s the plan. I’m going to submit a written complaint for harassment and demand they come to my place. I don’t know if I can complain about abusing the elderly at 57 years old, but if I can I will.  I’m going to show them his text messages. At first I asked him when was a good time to turn my music up a little. He said 10am to 10pm although Washington state law and the lease says quiet from 10pm to 7 am. I got a text message from him the next night at 8:30 saying “I know I said 10 but it’s too loud now will you please turn it down.” I completely shut off my surround system a week and a half ago, and got a message a few days ago saying. “I’ve asked you repeatedly to turn it down, will you please be responsible and turn it down, I’m having to ask you too much. At 1;30 pm today right after the eviction warning he texted, “I don’t want to hear your tv anymore so please turn it down” to which I said no. I want to tell him to lose my number but want his text messages as evidence of harassment.. I have a SPL meter and am going to insist they come to my place to look at sound levels. In Washington state it’s 55 db during the day which is equivalent to a loud conversation, and 45 db at night which is a quiet conversation. That is what I’m going to insist we go by.

I’m curious if she can hear you when you take a p~~~ or wash the dishes. Hell washing the dishes can be louder than watching tv.

I fire up my blend tech for smoothies once a day. It’s the only way I can get veggies in me. It is way louder than my tv. That thing screams but the law allows for loud sounds for a couple minutes.

Coming from experience all the property management wants is to do is to resolve the issue as simply as possible and get paid. Talk to them and say that you do not believe it to be loud and to come check the sound. Also make sure you submit a calm well written email to them. You then have hard evidence if you truly are dealing with s~~~ty property managers. Stay as calm as possible, come in person, and explain the issue at hand. If the property manage is on your side you will win. Also review your lease and see the conditions of it as that can provide valuable info used in the discussion with the manager. If it boils down to it give reasons why you are the better tenant and will continue to be on time every month.

My solution although somewhat expensive is to go strictly by the revised code of Washington. They require a calibrated type 2 spl meter with class A weighting. From the source I get 55db between 10am to 10 pm and 45 db between 10pm to 10am. I’ve purchased one from Amazon for $170 delivered Tuesday. I will drive to the management office Monday and show them the RCW along with the specifications of the SPL meter to show it’s in compliance with Washington State law. I will also show them the text messages from my neighbor so they can see the continuous pressure. I will tell them to come to my place and view the SPL decibel levels. I will set up rent on auto pay so that won’t be a question. I need this for peace of mind and stress reduction being a cardiac patient. I’m going to text neighbor and tell him to lose my number and any further contact will be viewed as harassment.

LOL at your neighbour having your phone number in the first place. That was your mistake.

11 years ago I got kicked out of an apartment because my GF at the time screamed too loud during sex – somebody called the cops.
Apartment building had a rule – if cops get called to your apartment twice – you are out. And this was the second time.
And this was the apartment I specifically chose for having non-sheetrock walls (brick/concrete slab)
