Hi guys. Remember me? It’s been a while but I’m finally back. I’ve decided to make a thread about tvtropes.org.
Tvtropes.org is a mostly good site with a big problem.
The Good
Tvtropes is a site where people gather to talk about the recurring themes and character archetypes in fiction. The site was originally about TV shows (hence the name) but the site has since expanded to encompass all of media. This includes movies, video games, comic books, ect. The site also has several very good articles on ancient stories such as the Iliad and the Odyssey. That is the main reason why the site should be discussed on an anti-feminist website. For some people, tvtropes could be a useful introduction to ancient mythology. The Bad
The site is a wiki and it attracts some unlikable characters. As you can imagine, there are some editors on the site who will repeat points that originated in Feminist Frequency. This is very apparent when you browse articles on fairly recent movies and games. The feminist editors on tvtropes will tell you that:– The distressed damsel archetype is sexist … even though women sometimes need your help in real life.
– The “nerd gets the girl” plot is sexist even though some girls do actually have a thing for nerds.
– Men who indulge in “adolescent male power fantasies” will start hurting women in real life. Every good feminist knows that men are idiots who copy everything that they see in video games and pornography.
– If men don’t like shows aimed at women then they should go watch something else … but feminists can totally bitch about shows that aren’t aimed at them. The articles on ancient mythology contain some feminonsense but not much. It’s easy to ignore. Thank goodness.
So … yeah, we can talk about tvtropes in this thread if you want. I’m not trying to start a Gamergate-style edit war. I just think that we could use this site to talk about the positive and negative aspects of tvtropes.
MGTOW: because you can (and should) say anything about a woman as long as she isn't within earshot
Welcome back. I have to say I cut the cable 3+ years ago. After a 90 day withdrawal, I haven’t missed any of the media nonsense. It’s ALL FEMINIST HORSES~~~. Even the “news” is designed to SHAPE public opinion, not REVEAL it.
When women lead, destruction is the destination. -- Me.
The main two problems with TVtropes is that they are a very exclusive group that does not allow others outside of their group to join. You have to have a friend already on the inside to get in to join.
And they from their organization through advertisers, and they allow the advertisers to tell them what and what they cannot allow on their website. They are the advertisers’ buttmonkeys.
Some of The Actually Good Content on Tvtropes
Their article on the Iliad correctly points out that the story is “Rated M For Manly”. It also says “This was a story by men, for men, about being manly men.”
– Their article on Mistaken For Pedophile correctly points out that the character in question is almost always male.
– The site contains a very good description of the monomyth.
– The have very detailed info about the entire Greek Pantheon.
– Their article on My Super Ex-Girlfriend points out that the film is actually pretty sick and twisted.

I could spend days and days on that site and often have. I think people these days are more aware than ever about feminist bulls~~~ going on, and they realize when someone is pushing an agenda rather than looking at things objectively. I’ve noticed those things, but usually breeze past them.
A more objective or critical way of looking at it would be:
“The damsel in distress is a very old literary device and is considered hackneyed and overused at this point, but can still be used to great effect especially when writing a classic hero’s tale.”I don’t go to these sites for opinions. That’s like going to a writing website and they say “Novels and short stories are dumb and stupid and if you write them you are dumb and stupid because that’s what I think.”
I’m not looking for unsubstantiated statements, and since most feminist logic revolves around hurt feelings rather than facts, there’s really no point in looking for facts and substantiated evidence in such entries. So I don’t.
Feminism is a movement where opinions are presented as facts and emotions are presented as evidence.
