Ever since I took the red pill I’ve been looking into different types of jobs that are best suited for MGTOWs. One of those jobs that I constantly keep researching is farming.
Does anyone else think farming is a good idea in this day and age?
Knowing how the economy is right now, I think in the very near future we’re going to be depending a lot more on producers like farmers. And if the economy ever does go down the s~~~ter more than it already has, if you’re not a producer, you’re going to be struggling even more.
I’ve actually been thinking about getting a few hundred acres of land, building a small cabin on it, and spend the rest of my days on that farm with a few hired hands to help out within the next 5-10 years.
I know farming is hard work, but honestly, I’ve been thinking about doing it more and more lately. And it definitely beats the hell out of spending your last days in a corporate office somewhere.

I garden on a larger scale. About a half to 3/4 acre. Think on what your main staple will be. For me, in the land I have its potatoes (also I’m Irish and cant get enough of them, its genetic. 🙂 ). Based on your land and environment it could be corn or wheat / oats.
FARMING on a small scale like that means you would be providing fresh organic produce to eaterys. You need customers and to be honest farming is f~~~tough in terms of all the overhead you have to maintain. Equipment, fuel, fertilizer, pesticides (organic approved), labor, insurance, bank loans. From some of my contacts they can attest that its a s~~~load of work.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning; it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

Ha, I’m part irish as well and I love fried potatoes. I have’em almost every day with breakfast. I have no idea what my main staple will be yet. I guess it’ll be just whatever’s profitable in the area I’m farming in.
I’ve also heard plenty of people have micro-farms now a days and they still make quite a bit of money from only their vegetables and fruits which would be great.

I have quite a few family members who do farming for a living. I know it can definitely be a bitch as far as work goes. I still think I’d enjoy it way more especially in my older years though.

Chose wisely.
How about balance…
A good desk job and grow your own food.
I have wicked benefits.
I was thinking about doing that as well. I’d love to do farming though, if only as a hobby.

Anonymous42Farming is allot more than plant it and run. soil analysis and home blended fertilizer remedies are needed during the entire life cycle of a plant, a constant vigilance of care must be maintained, lots of mathematical calculations must be made to remedy nutrient deficiencies including mixing concentrations and spreading applications, I recommend going to college for agriculture, or piece by piece scour the f~~~ out of the internet as I do for all the information needed, it’s out there.
I’m satisfied with having a mini farm because the work is not endless like a full scale operation and the animals help in coping with life in the deep woods.
Purple martins eat mosquito by day and bats eat mosquito by night, both I provided the necessary shelter and clearings to attract them.
Chickens eat the disease carrying ticks along with countless other pests.
Goats keep the clearings well manicured making milk in the process, They are a lawn mower that does all the work and gives you a gallon of milk instead of taking a gallon of gas.
If you have to uproot trees stumps, use pigs by throwing corn around the stump, they’ll eat and hoof the dirt to get at the corn, eventually eating their way to the bottom of the stump and exposing ALL the roots. With the right animals they do all the work.

I’ll most likely just end up researching a lot of s~~~ on the internet as well as becoming a farming apprentince at a farm before I make a final decision on whether or not I did end up wanting to do this.

I’d rather have a mini farm as well. The only reason I’d want to get a few hundred acres is to avoid neighbors. That way I could basically do anything I wanted on my property without people calling in to complain.
I love my solitude as well, so I’d love to live by myself for the most part.

Definitely. I’d use chickens and a few cats to keep the pests under control as well.
I’ll end up researching this a lot before I ever end up buying a farm.

My people were farmers for the last 200 years.
Farming is a damn hard job. Hobby farm if you want. You will find it fufilling.
Farming legal Marijuana, morrell mushrooms, wine grapes, etc. might be different.
You do not want to be a full time farmer. Get those romantic thoughts out of your head.
Go work for a farmer for a year before you make the decision.

Anonymous17I also farm about 1/2 acre for my own consumption, excluding the orchard. Farming can be challenging if you haven’t farmed before, but you could hire someone with knowledge and experience. The average age of farmers in the US is nearing 60 years old which I think is very worrisome. https://www.agcensus.usda.gov/Publications/2012/Online_Resources/Highlights/Farm_Demographics/

It definitely is a hard job. I’m well aware of that. I’m thinking of doing mainly because I want to be more self sufficient where I don’t even have to worry about going to the grocery store. I’d rather sell my own products to those stores. Plus, once I pay off my debt, I won’t need that much to survive off of anyway. So money won’t be that important to me afterwards either.

I definitely will. I have worked on my families farm when I was a kid before, so I don’t remember much, but I know I did have to work pretty much all day. And honestly, I wouldn’t mind that.
but you could hire someone with knowledge and experience.
That’s what I was thinking as well. That way, I’ll always have someone to help around the farm.

With respect, you have no idea.

Hobby farming is great.
Trust me. I lived it.

I may not have any idea of how hard it is, but whenever someone says “somethings hard, you might not want to do it” I just see it as a challenge. Especially if it’s something I’ve been thinking of doing for quite a while.
And I’d actually love the idea of farming full time. No women to deal with. That alone would be great.
I do plan on working for a farmer for a year before I make any final decisions however.

Anonymous42Aquaponics and Hydroponics are the most productive systems. I would do aquaponics if I was further South from here.
No problem Brother.
I just wanted to make sure that you weren’t following some romantic dream.
Damn hard work. Every damn day. No days off. But it might be your bliss.
Let us know how it goes.
I do wish you the best.

I looked a little bit into that. My sister and her ex were actually thinking of doing it at one time which got me into researching farming topics.

I’m definitely not. I do love the idea of farming. I’ve been thinking about starting a farm ever since I moved into the city with my parents.

Yeah. No vacations either. Or traveling. Which is why I’m gonna make damn sure I want to do it for the rest of my life before committing to anything full time. But, I’m 90% sure I want to start some type of farm.

I definitely will.

Farming is hard work, especially if you do everything with hand tools. I work half an acre of land by myself and planted a verity of vegetables last month. But what I enjoy doing the most is bee keeping. I have two hives going that produce anywhere from 60 to 100 liters (121 to 132 gallons) of honey each year and usually sell anything I don’t use at $20 for a two liter jar. The hobby pays for itself if you have no fear of being stung by bees I would look into doing that as well it is fun to take care and nurture bees. I do it up north in the cold sometimes a hive will die but if you breed the right queens eventually your hives will sustain themselves so long as you plant a lot of flowers around for them.
Also I have neighbors that are 10 ft. away from me on other side of my house and so long as you let them know what you are doing and give them free honey jar now and then they will support you. If you live close to someone like me always ask if anyone is allergic before doing this sort of thing. If you live in an open area I would recommend this type of farming as bees are dying out and we need them and they will help pollinate your crops and keep the ecosystem in your area healthy. I don’t use any type of pesticides everything is all natural and organic and all my plants grow a large amount of vegetables both in size and quantity. Something to further think about if you decide that you do want to farm.

I’d love to keep some bees around the farm. I am scared of getting stung though, because I’m allergic to bees. So I have no idea how I’d avoid getting stung. Otherwise, it’s definitely a great idea to have quite a few hives around. Honey is a great product that almost never expires.
As for neighbors, I plan on getting a few hundred acres. I’ll most likely keep my farm on a small scale, but the main reason I want to get a few hundred acres is to avoid having neighbors in the first place.
