This week we killed a news story because of an angry wife

The short version: We shot a news story about a roof beam that detached and fell, landing dangerously close to a sleeping child. It was a good story. We interviewed the homeowner.

Fast forward a few hours. We get a panicky phone call from the guy we interviewed. His wife is upset. The wife claims the husband needed her permission to do the interview, and that a news story would jeopardize her insurance payout (not theirs, hers). He begged us to kill the story. He genuinely sounded afraid. Although we didn’t want to, we agreed to hold the story until we could talk to the wife in person. Even my female manager thought the guy needed to “grow a pair.”

I desperately wanted to tell him, in a whispered voice, “run.” Run and don’t look back. Grab your wallet, your car, withdraw as much money as allowed, and just run. Start your life over elsewhere.

That’s the point in time you whisper MGTOW into someone’s ear and hope the seed grows into something. Don’t see many roof beams just ‘fall off’ unless there’s a serious storm or decades of poor maintenance though.

Poor guy… I know all about having an ‘angry wife’. My ex used to like to throw stuff provided it wasn’t her stuff of course.
