TORONTO — A veteran journalist with Ontario’s public broadcaster fired back and denied a sexual harassment allegation made by a Toronto woman, calling the claim “complete fiction.”

Steve Paikin, host of TVOntario’s flagship current events program “The Agenda,” broke his silence Tuesday with an extensive statement on Facebook, where he said he was “gobsmacked” by the allegation outlined to him in an email from his accuser over the weekend.

“Even though I knew the allegations were 100 per cent false, I did what I suspected was the appropriate thing to do and immediately passed the email on to my superiors at TVO,” Paikin wrote. “I knew the charges were bogus, but I knew I owed it to my employer to be totally transparent about all of it.”

Paikin said he spent two hours Sunday with TVO management and its lawyers “answering every imaginable question.”

His comments come after TVO announced Monday that an independent third party will investigate the allegations, during which time Paikin will continue to host “The Agenda.”

Paikin commended the broadcaster Tuesday for bringing in the investigator, adding that “I have no doubt that a thorough and fair analysis of the allegations and the parties involved will point to the truth.”

Paikin and TVO have said the claims were mounted by former Toronto mayoral candidate Sarah Thomson, who Paikin said he has known professionally for more than a decade.

In a post Friday on Thomson’s website Women’s Post, she wrote that a political talk show host, who she did not identify, “asked me if I would sleep with him” after attending a lunch at a Toronto restaurant in 2010. She said her assistant was present for the meeting.

She said she “politely” declined his offer, then went to the washroom and called her campaign manager, who advised her to leave, which she said she did.

Thomson has not responded to requests for comment from The Canadian Press.

Before Paikin released his Facebook statement, Thomson tweeted Tuesday, “Women don’t come forward because they get attacked on social media. Did Paikin go public to scare other women from coming forward? Sad how easily he’s playing people.”

The allegation comes amid a social justice movement under the .MeToo and Time’s Up banners, which has sparked an international conversation on sexual misconduct, harassment and assault.

Paikin said the movement is “too important to be undermined by spurious allegations. The only good thing about this has been receiving the huge number of emails and phone calls from people who believe me and are prepared to say so publicly.”

He said he wrote the statement, independent from TVO and his lawyers, that he has had trouble sleeping since the allegation was made.

“You’ve defamed me Sarah. I have no idea why, but you have. And I simply can’t allow that to stand,” he wrote. “The quest to reclaim my reputation, which you’ve tried to destroy, begins now. I look forward to vindication.”

Former Toronto Mayoral candidate Sarah Thomson has accused TVO host Steve Paikin of sexual harassment, and HE’S FIGHTING BACK. He’s completely denying any of it ever happened and willing to prove it, instead of immediately kowtowing to her and profusely apologizing, not to mention “stepping down” or “resigning”. So kudos to this guy for actually standing up for himself, it’s pretty rare in this day and age.

Also, to TVO’s credit they haven’t fired or suspended him and it doesn’t seem like they’re going to, so that’s something. Usually when even a hint of sexual misconduct comes up the company/station either fire or suspend the man accused until a “third-party investigation” is conducted, so it’s nice to see that every now and then they’ll actually let him keep his job. Of course, they could probably also know she’s full of s~~~, so firing him over a blatant lie that could likely be proven as such would likely cause them a helluva lot more problems, like a wrongful termination lawsuit, than it would solve.

A little background on Sarah Thomson:
She has attempted and failed to run for public office in the Toronto area at least 4 times . She is famous for trying to increase her social/political awareness by staging a fake sexual assault involving Toronto mayor Rob Ford. Witnesses actually heard her saying she was going to make it look like Ford grabbed her ass and claim sexual assault. Another incident that puts her accusations in a different light is at a party more than a decade ago she joked about asking Conrad Black (Canadian celebrity/ journalist)to sleep with her in exchange for him giving her an interview. This is EXACTLY what she is accusing Paikin of. (For those of you who don’t know Paikins moral reputation it would be similar to VP Pence)

Everybody realizes what she is doing and when the truth comes out she is going to ripped apart by the media. It’s great to see that most reader’s comments are coming from women – they realize she is probably going to be the official #metoo jump the shark representative.

An adult man asking an adult woman, who is not a co-worker, if she wants to have sex is not sexual harassment if they’ve had a long, intimate relationship.

Let’s say it happened. He asked her for sex, she refused, then they both went their separate ways. WTF to you want me to do about that? Do you seriously want me to make sure he’s punished for his libido?

Seriously: if the incident was truly traumatic for her, she could’ve called the police. But she didn’t. She moved on with her life and so should we.

Asking for sex is actually asking for consent, it’s ALWAYS perfectly legit: it’s EXACTLY what is required by the law. You don’t need to be in a relationship to ask for sex.

As I read through thru the MGTOW forums and hear about sexual harrassment lawsuits, it becomes clear that men are STARTING TO FIGHT BACK. The social contract is broken. Women broke it and no amount of virtue signaling is going to lure men back.

I am also heartened to hear about young men being open about having nothing to do with women. Boys and young men see what women and #metoo have done to the other men in their lives and will not let it happen to them.

Women have asked for this and they are starting to get it. It will be very interesting to see it happen.
