There are worse parts to the abuse, which is how assault is legally defined. In America, assault is defined the threat of violence in which the person feels as though the threat was valid, so if she comes at you with a knife and you pull a gun and she stops, she can call the cops and you will probably get assault charges. Never mind why you pulled the gun. this is why I advise not letting her get the chance to hurt you if possible, the easiest method being don’t associate with women.

So a guy doesn’t want to return violence to a woman who is being abusive, goes to a support group and they laugh at him?  I tell you what, f that completely.  I say this is why you go MGTOW.  You go, “Enough is enough” and you leave if a woman does that.  You don’t put up with it.  It doesn’t mean you repay the violence for the violence, just have enough respect to not go through it.
