Here I am, at the local library, still unemployed as I desperately continue to job search.

My car insurance is due in two days, and if I lose that, I lose the truck I’ve been making payments on.

The next payment for the truck is due Saturday.

I have to come up with nearly $450 before the week’s end. (The first insurance payment for the truck is more expensive because of the policy change, making the first payment $283 and the rest much, MUCH cheaper…and the truck payment is $150 every two weeks)

To be honest, it’s the only thing I really cared about making payments on.

I’ve applied for nearly 300 jobs since I lost my position at NASA at the beginning of August. I have applied here in Texas and up in Arkansas (where I know some people as well). The saddest thing is that I have had 7 call backs from Arkansas in the past week, and only ONE in Texas in the near two months I’ve been unemployed.

I went up to Arkansas to interview for a few of the positions. It was gorgeous up there, and I wouldn’t mind living there. The pay isn’t much lower and the cost of living is MUCH cheaper than where I am now (the NASA area near the water).

I have two temp agencies that want to tentatively hire me up there. One for an office job (meh, it’s a job) and the other for an IT position. They sure like to take their sweet time though. I’ve even applied for simple jobs that kids can get (minimum wage and part-time) and I get the infamous rejection letters/e-mails that say I’m “overqualified” or they “selected a candidate that more closely fits the position.”

I’m also in the middle of clearing out my apartment. I’m being evicted and should have been out yesterday. I just love how competitive the job search is in Houston…NOT.

Heck, I even tried to start a GoFundMe just to give me the boost I need to get up to Arkansas where the jobs for me obviously are, but I’ve not raised a penny. I forgot, if it’s not a donation for a man suffering and his wife needing it somehow, then it’s for women who have a “worse” story than I do. Can’t let THEM go homeless, right?

My heart aches for you. Do you have a degree or certifications? If so, are they helpibg or hurting you in your job search? You mentioned being over qualified for so that’s why I’m asking? Have you thought of doing odd jobs on Craigslist? You problably need a vehicle for those, but is there a way to find work without extensive use of your vehicle for the time being just to buy time until you find your next job? Any positive recommendations from your NASA jobs?

My brotha. I have done this:

Go door to door and do any job a person needs.

    Digging, weeding, painting. Anything.

Go to businesses and ask to clean windows. In a real pinch, I went to laundry mats and got the change out of the bottom of the lint filter.

    Good luck bro.

Also, the catalectic converter on your truck is probably worth 500 bucks.

Did you get the truck running?
They can’t seize something that’s registered and insured to an address where the truck is no longer.

Send in a partial payment but don’t stiff them for the full amount and make sure you don’t give your new address to the registry or insurance company making the truck invisible when they go to the wrong address.

    Think McFly think!

You’ll be able to legally drive and if they cash the check (not paid in full) then they’re in agreeing to the payment by cashing the check!

They know they can’t get blood from a stone and should leave you alone as long as you keep on dripping little drops of precious blood.

Chris, hang in there man, times will get better once your in your element and working overtime, keep the faith, you’ll be looking back on this admitting to yourself how it made you stronger!

Stay in touch, we’ll help you think as a strategist to find the one and only path through this.

You got what it takes, you just need a little wind in your sails!

Just wait it out, I’m sure the trade winds are out there, you just have to find them sitting on a sea of glass. It’s one of life’s trials and tribulation, when you find comfort once again you’ll appreciate and cherish more! That’s how men are seasoned and life keeps getting better and better!

I have heard that falsifying any information on even the simplest jobs these days can get you fired or at the very least disqualified for consideration for the job. No good recommendations from the NASA job since they terminated me during training, but I have a huge load of good recommendations from my previous jobs. I have two certifications in computer work, and have slowly but surely been working towards an associate’s degree. I just hate how I’m qualified for all these jobs, but they either take way too long to respond or they end up hiring someone else. These temp agencies almost seem like a waste of time because for some reason they suddenly want to do extensive background checks. I have nothing against my record, but the one thing holding me back from the job with the most potential is the fact that I am a homeschool graduate. They are strangely claiming that my homeschool diploma is not sufficient enough to prove that I graduated high school 10 years ago. I have never had a job question my education this deeply before! It’s unbelievable.

DON’T work for them they’re feminazi family killers and what they did is ILLEGAL DISCRIMINATION! If it good enough for the STATE it’s god damned good enough for feminazi! Home schoolers REGULARLY OUTPERFORM ANY OTHER EDUCATION!

F~~~ING FEMINAZI! WE GOT YOUR NUMBER!

Any way, I’m not saying to lie on your job applicants about your new address, I meagerly suggesting you delay notifying your insurance company, changing plates and notifying the Texas RMV.
You need to play the shell game hiding the truck from any REPO action! Nothing ILLEGAL! You’ll have a legally driveable truck registered and insured with a partial payment on the monthly loan.
Your primary goal should be keep that truck legal and running until you can afford the Arkansas plates, inspection, and insurance.
You don’t have to hop through any given door, you can have one foot outside and one foot inside as long as it saves or extends a few dollars.

Repo and the loanshark go by licence and registration not job information, so send Repo and shark together to the wrong ocean!

    Hey Mcfly, you’re shoe’s untied!

Mate I’m in the same position as you. Living in my car and spending all my waking hours at the local library. I have a weekend bouncer job but its f~~~ all to live on.

The economy everywhere is a joke and its all about luck or who you know. Never have things been so bad as now.

As a man, no one gives a s~~~ about you. You could lay dead on a sidewalk and c~~~s would walk right over you without stopping to check if you’re ok.

Sorry to hear man. With a truck many people respond to “I will lug your s~~~ to the dump!” ads on local message boards. Depending on distance to landfill, $40 – $60 per load. Best of luck.

This is why I’m so thankful to have my own business. I’ve never had to work for anyone else before. Can’t imagine how awful that would be. My recommendation would be to flip s~~~ on Craigslist. Not a ton of money in it, but if all you’ve got is your car and time then you should be able to do it. I’d recommend smartphones or computers to flip. Just search for a REALLY good deal, be the first person to buy it, then turn around and list it for $50 to $100 more. The problem is, you shouldn’t have waited this long before doing that. You do need some capital (a few hundred $$$) and it might take a day or two to make a sale. And you have to eat in between. I’ve never personally been so low before. You’ve got to do something BEFORE you’re in that position. Once you have nothing, you’re a vagrant in society and it’s almost impossible to crawl out of the gutter.

The other option is to buy low on Craigslist, and sell for higher on eBay. You can’t buy on eBay then sell on Craigslist because you’ve got no where to ship the items to, but you can find a box and ship a laptop if you need to.
