You might be surprised at how “efficient” modern Nuclear weapons are now-a-days. The only serious radiation is from the initial blast from Gamma rays in the chain-reaction. The other fallout is consumed in the blast. In addition: the yields can get quite small(Tactical), but still make a blast bigger than MOAB.

The North Koreans don’t have enough nukes to end the world, and I doubt any of their missiles would make it through our defense system. Add Russia to the mix and you’d really have a fireworks show. Unfortunately for North Korea, Russia isn’t going to launch nukes against us for them, and the Chinese have too much of their economy tied up with good relations with the U.S. to even want to consider it.

I wonder how much EMP damage 50 or 60 nuclear warheads detonated high altitude with the explicit goal of creating EMP would cause to the electronic infrastructure?

I think one city will get a nuke dropped on its head as a warning to other countries but I haven’t decided which one they’ll chose. It’s hard to foresee what psychopaths may do.
Mabye Teheran, maybe Islamabad but I have this nagging feeling that they will do it. I think they’re itching to do it but they want a one-off, not a full-scale nuke confrontation.
