I think most men get this early on. The world is fraught with peril and you need to protect yourself against that. Historically this has been what led to the concept of family – spousal and multi-generational. A united front against the mean, dangerous world. Someone to have your back, while you had their’s. Some bench strength when one of you faltered.

Those of us who are approaching our later years, have the benefit of being able to look back on life. One thing that strikes me about many here, is that we have endured and survived everything that life has thrown at us so far, and even though some have suffered terribly, they still have a positive if not cautious outlook on life. It seems at times the world hates us, sometimes I even think God hates me, and the world is trying it’s hardest to screw us up.
But the strength to carry on, in spite of all the s~~~, is something that comes from within, not without, it’s what ‘you’ do, not what anyone else does that will determine your path.
