    GOODEVENING!!

I worked three out of my four years in active US Navy working from 1800-0600 (6:00PM-6:00AM). I faced some symptoms of a vampire like sensitivity to sunlight (but great night vision), pale skin and surprisingly, depression (there are other serious health risks for us vampires). I don’t care for blood but I start my day drinking a glass of vegetable juice.

I have worked night shift other times but only for short periods in construction and never faced those problems again, until now. I have been driving a bus during night hours for more than two years and my vampire problem crept up on me again. A year ago, my wife and I separated and it took me all of 2017 to even think about recovery. Being a dietary cook, I don’t know why it didn’t dawn on me what my problem was: Vitamin D deficiency, we cooks call it the “Sunshine vitamin” as the sun is the chief source for Vitamin D. I take a multi-vitamin and drink Vitamin D milk but that wasn’t enough for me. So to start off 2018, I started taking a Vitamin D supplement. In spite of being down with the flu right now, I am starting to feel a weight is being lifted off me. Vitamin D deficiency causes depression, insomnia, and other problems. For the last two days, I have spent most of the day sleeping in my casket.

I gave this article a humorous tone but this is actually a serious topic. It doesn’t bother me to be a vampire since the only other being in my castle is a dachshund but I want to be a reasonably happy vampire. Whenever we have a MGTOW battling long-term depression, perhaps we should ask what hours he keeps because us vampires also Go Our Own Way.

Being low on magnesium and b vitamins also cause depression and lack of energy. Most people are deficient.

Vitamin D3 supplementation is absolutely critical year round. Even during summer months because few of us get lots of direct sun on our bodies due to the fact that many of us work indoors nowadays.

Vitamin D3 and fish oils are the best band for your buck supplements you need to take for your over all health.

But along with Vitamin D3, you need to also consume Vitamin K2 because if you just take D3 without K2 it will harden your arteries.

There is something to be said for vampires: Usually, women suck the blood out of men and no one thinks anything of it. Vampires suck the blood out of women and they get called “Evil Monsters!”

    Like a Bloody Mary!

Actually, it’s a Virgin Veggie Mary: Low salt vegetable juice, ice cube, a dash of hot sauce (hotter than most), Worcestershire sauce and black pepper. Nothing like a vampire suck the blood of a virgin named Mary.

I always joke about living like a vampire when I go on a bender to SE Asia.

Climate is the same, every day hot and muggy, more than an hour sun shine and I’ve hit the quota for the day.

If I’m on a party vacay drink all night sleep all day with a little bit of romancing thrown in for good luck.

    FYI
the term for people, like me, who sleep during the day and work at night is LYCHNOBITES.
I just think it’s a cool word, anyway.

And as you said, vitamin D is the key.
It’s also a good idea to try to get sunshine whenever you can.
Sunlight on the skin, reacts with your cholesterol to make Vitamin D.

I have been having that issue as well. I don’t like being out in the day. Its not a good thing. But I like the peace and quiet of the night.

You are all alone. If you have been falsely accused of RAPE, DV, PLEASE let all men know about the people who did this. http://register-her.net/web/guest/home

Yep, I believe Vitamin D is unfairly underrated, and deserves more attention.

My personal experience: I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (diabetes mellitus) about 9 years ago now. My blood tests at the time also highlighted a low Vitamin D.

Read some research that found a clear correlation between low Vitamin D and diabetes. So I made a few changes to my lifestyle, started taking Vitamin D supplements and just generally try to get more sunlight. eg: I’d take my shirt off while going for a jog or workout outdoors, to increase the amount of skin exposed to the sunlight.

For the last 2 or 3 years, my twice a year blood test (HbA1C) puts me in the “well controlled” category. The doctor and diabetes educator agree that I don’t need insulin or any other medication such as metformin.

You sound like a natural vampire and I can relate. There is a certain peace at night but be careful.

Great advice about diet, nutrition, and vitamins, Sparky.

I’ve been a “vampire” too and often cover customer facilities on back shifts. One way “vampires” can get enough vitamin D and avoid health issues is with special lamps. They’re often used in high latitudes during winter months. An hour or so a day sitting under them will give your body the “sunlight” it needs to make much of the vitamin D it needs.

Opposite problem with too much sun and skin cancers

I get that too. I have had 2nd and even 3rd degree burns from the sun when I visited Hawaii as a kid. It’s no fun scratching the itch and find a handful of skin.
