My father is passed, but I think about him now in the present and would like to think he taught me things that will help in the future. Winston McKinney was his name. He once told me “son, I will never lie to you because I love you to much, If I say to you a flea can pull a gut wagon then you don’t question me. Just find a harness and hook him up.”
but I always questioned his wisdom when i was young. I never should have, for even when I believed he lied to me,I found out later he did not. How many parents do not know the value of a dollar? How do you teach your children if you don’t know yourself? My father taught this lesson to me when I was but ten years old (4th grade). After the lesson I was sure in my ten year old brain that I had him backed into a corner, he could not escape, surely my dad had lied to me. Would any of you reading this like to hear how he taught this lesson? This lesson and the way he taught it had much more value than a single dollar. Before I go on a little background about me.At ten years old I had bicycled through the town of Spiro Oklahoma. In 1973 Spiro had more small stores than now.As with most small towns the charm of small mom and pop business is gone, but that’s a story for later. One place I remember well was Tibbit’s grocery store where you could buy a bottle coke for ten cents (only if you drank it there at the store) then placed the returnable bottle in the wooden case. You could take it with you for 15 cents. You could also return most soda bottles that you may find discarded in the trash or tossed in the ditch by motorist for the nickle deposit. ah the nostalgia, finding two empty soda bottles riding my bike to Tibbit’s and drinking, what to me, was a free soda. At ten years old I knew what I could buy with a dollar.
So i had a good grasp of what a dollar was worth. Most every ten year old knows what Most things are. A car is a car,a house is a house and a dollar is a dollar. Not every ten year old knows what substance means. The substance of a car is steel the substance of a house is wood and the substance of a dollar is paper.Very few if any child at ten knows what value is,and some adults struggle with it. We see it in advertizing GREAT VALUE printed on a label. Who determines the value of anything? I believe now the end user determines the value of anything by assessing its usefulness. The ten year old thinks value=worth. This is not true. Worth is determined by what you may receive in exchange for something. Its true value is determined by how useful it is to the one who exchanged for it.Beware of the label that says GREAT VALUE.My dad called to me one day when I was ten years old and said,”son let me teach you the value of a dollar.I will teach you its substance, its worth and its value as a unit of measure.I will also give three examples of using it as a unit of measure.”
My dad took a single dollar out of his pocket showed it to me and asked “son do you know what this is worth?”
I replied “yes I do” not satisfied with my answer he said “tell me what its worth” so I proceeded to tell him how much candy and soda i could buy at Tibbit’s grocery store with one dollar. he interrupted me and said “your close son a dollar is worth what you can exchange it for TODAY” he put expression and emphasis on the word TODAY, then he added “It will never ever be worth as much TOMORROW” with the same expression and emphasis on the word TOMORROW.
My dad was always teaching me through riddles and puzzles so I knew that emphasis on words was always a clue to the correct answers but today, tomorrow and the bearing they had on the worth of a dollar was to much for me and he knew it.Then he asked “do you know why a dollar will always be worth less tomorrow?” I did not understand and he knew it so he answered his own question after a short pause he said “because of its substance” then without any pause he asked “what is its substance?” he saw how confused I looked and asked the same Question a different way “what is it made of? he asked. “paper” I replied. he said “yes because of its substance a dollar will always be worth less tomorrow and less the day after that. Now that you know its worth and its substance I will teach you its value.”I was bound to be misunderstood, and I laugh at those who misunderstand me. Kind mockery at the well intentioned, but unfettered cruelty towards those would be prison guards of my creative possibilities. This so as to learn as much from misunderstanding as from understanding. Taking pleasure in worthy opponents and making language fluid and flowing like a river yet pointed and precise as a dagger. Contradicts the socialistic purpose of language and makes for a wonderful linguistic dance, A verbal martial art with constant parries that hone the weapon that is the two edged sword of my mouth.
The value of a dollar continued
I knew my dad had already given me the answer to the last part but he asked just to see if I was paying attention “what is the value of a dollar?” I quickly answered “its a unit of measure” he asked “do you know what it measures?” I was sure I knew and started down the same path as before telling him how much soda and candy I could buy again.he interrupted again and said “we have already figured out what its worth” he had high expectations of me being able to figure things out for myself. there was a long pause so he could watch my expressions as i was hashing out this value thing, finally I looked up and asked “what does it measure?” he answered “son, it says in the bible that the love of money is the root of all evil and so it can measure evil in everyone of us” I was pretty sure that he and I was not evil but he said everyone of us. I then asked “how does it measure evil?” He said “it measures small, medium and large evil by noting at what length one man will go to steal that dollar from the other man” He talked with his hands while saying this, holding the dollar with one hand and snatching it away with the other as if his hands were the two men. Then he started the examples sticking the dollar in his back pocket but careful to leave part hanging out.He said “a pick-pocket who would sneak up behind you and steal the dollar or your wallet is a medium measure of evil.” again quickly snatching the dollar out of his pocket on the word steal. Without pause he added with the dollar now in his right hand “A mugger on the street who would run up to your face and steal the dollar from you is a small measure of evil” he said no more, but watched me think this over.I know now, he also knew ahead of time, the line of questions that would come from me next. Why was one thief more evil than the next thief and who was the largest evil thief? He waited until I asked then explained it this way, saying “son, the mugger who came up face to face was the least evil and most honest thief because he did not hide his intentions and let you get a description of him and if you are fast and strong enough you could run him down and take your dollar back. The pick-pocket was more evil because he did it Stealthily so you did not get a description and never knew the dollar was gone until later, when you checked your pockets” he then sighed a deep breath and said “but The largest most evil measure is the man or group of men who would think up the most complicated, maniacal, elaborate and underhanded plan to take that dollar from you before you ever receive it yourself.” At this moment I was sure that this was impossible no one could steal what i did not have.I told him so knowing without a doubt I had to be correct. But he said I promise you son it can be done.I then asked “how dad, how can they steal it before I get it?” He then took a knee so we was on the same level and said “son,I don’t know everything but rest assured when you grow up you will know that If you CONSENT they can take your dollar before you get it. he put emphasis on the word CONSENT. He then said “I don’t know how they make it legal maybe you are smart enough to figure that out” END OF LESSONDad instilled in me a deep love for reading and told me never to skip words that i did not know. always get the dictionary and look them up.We had a large Websters dictionary the pages got very tattered and worn.
I know now that this was all true and he never lied. I studied and showed him how, through changing definitions of common words they make it legal to take money before you get it.Everyone should have two dictionaries one for common words and a law dictionary to see how lawyers and politicians perverted our language to our detriment.
next time you fill out a government W4 carefully read the top line. VOLUNTARY WITHHOLDING ALLOWANCE
When the North American revolutionaries set out to justify their secession from the British Empire, they declared, among other things: “Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed.”
He was correct on every part of the lesson. Because of its substance a paper dollar is worth so much less now that you can’t exchange it for even one soda.I was bound to be misunderstood, and I laugh at those who misunderstand me. Kind mockery at the well intentioned, but unfettered cruelty towards those would be prison guards of my creative possibilities. Harpo: great wisdom that stayed with you from the old man eh? a good read for sure. the boss of this website, Keymaster talks about what your dad was saying with the integrity of thief #1 and the subterfuge of thief #2. he calls it overt vs. covert behavior. cool story man hope to see more from you.
Thank You so much I was 4 years old when my parents divorced I was given a choice who I wanted live with.Children don’t get to make the choice now days. So my sense of having freedom of choice was instilled from an early age. I am 52 now and have grown to hate having my choices limited. I am writing a book about my early very happy child-hood and those who had input and influence on who I am today. This is for self examination and so my grandchildren have some knowledge of who I was after I am gone. This lesson is an exert from those writings. My dad was the youngest of six children raised by my paternal grandmother (mamaw to me). A true nawalt who once told me to leave those split tails alone. She was a good woman, who sided with her family over her gender, born an only child of a full blood Blackfoot Indian and a white woman. her mother was mentaly ill and died at the state mental institution in Vanita Oklahoma, when my grandma was young. This fact that my Mamaw was raised by a single father may be the reason she turned out to be such a good wife, mother and grandmother. Who knows for sure? I have stories she told me thats very interesting and I will share them as time permits.

Thats an interesting way of putting things, I’m going to use this analogy in my class tomorrow.
During the GOLD STANDARD era, prior to Nixon’s closing of the gold window, the value of a dollar was backed by PHYSICAL GOLD.
During the PETRO-DOLLAR era, (1971- 2014), the value of a dollar was backed by a combination of ‘U.S. domestic labor-based taxes’ [to pay interest on US GOV’T debt], and the oil based US DOLLAR WORLD RESERVE CURRENCY.
In the post petro-dollar era, (2015+), the value of a dollar will be entirely backed by ‘U.S. domestic labor-based taxes’ to pay interest on US GOV’T debt. Hence, the real reason for Obummer-care (really nothing more than a massive tax hike on what’s left of the US middle class).
The whole social system in the US is designed to foster unstable relationships between men and women; because doing so: (i) keeps people occupied fighting each other [and not fighting public policies that are harming them], (ii) economic activity [think divorce, real-estate industries, and retail industries] which generates lots of tax revenues for all levels of gov’t.
The MGTOW movement should it pick up steam is going to be viewed as a THREAT to the labor-tax-based revenue stream.
When millions of men: tell the system to take a hike, stop working so hard, and start enjoying life instead of being a slave to it– the value of the dollar will drop out of bed. Got gold?
