Im sure some of you are familiar with The Singularity. If you have watched this entire documentary on it The Transcendent Man – trailer below – the innovative genious of Kurzweill, and some of his cohorts, hold some completely arrogant consequences in their beliefs.
A few paraphrased highlights of said assumptions:
– the universe is not yet intelligent, but we will make it that way.
-man will become god like: omniscient, omnipresent, and virtually all powerful.
For those unfamiliar, this guy isnt sitting in his basement in a tin foil hat
Kurzweil received the 1999 National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the United States’ highest honor in technology, from President Clinton in a White House ceremony. He was the recipient of the 0,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize for 2001,[6] the world’s largest for innovation. And in 2002 he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame, established by the U.S. Patent Office. He has received twenty honorary doctorates, and honors from three U.S. presidents. Kurzweil has been described as a “restless genius”[7] by The Wall Street Journal and “the ultimate thinking machine”[8] by Forbes.
…..
Kurzweil was the principal inventor of the first charge-coupled device flatbed scanner,[2] the first omni-font optical character recognition,[2] the first print-to speech reading machine for the blind, the first commercial text-to-speech synthesizer the music synthesizer capable of simulating the sound of the grand piano and other orchestral instruments, and the first commercially marketed large-vocabulary speech recognition.[5]Resident cynic.
My formatting in the post kept getting f~~~ed and Im sick of editing it…
The guy is clearly an innovative genious; but imo he is grasping at straws in an attempt to defeat death out of fear and as a result of his views he perceives man as God.
Btw, I thought there was a religious forum?
Resident cynic.
Thanks for the tip. My library has his DVD and I am going to check it out.
