Marriage declining because men are pigs

In other words, marriage has been a bad deal for women pretty much forever. But they’ve been forced into it by cultural mores and economic imperatives, and that’s the only reason it’s been nearly universal in the past.

But there’s one exception to this: the college educated. Well-educated men are fairly reliable; they have good earning power; they generally aren’t abusive; and they’ve been willing—slowly but steadily—to change their habits and help out with kids and housework. For college-educated women, then, marriage is a relatively good deal. For everyone else, not so much.

The fact is, marriage rates are crashing. Hard. There are only two possible reasons for this:

1. Women are turning down proposals from men.

-or-

2. Men aren’t asking in the first place.

Now I haven’t seen a lot of articles (or even any) from women complaining about all the proposals they’ve had to turn down, but I sure as f~~~ have seen a hell of a lot of articles from women complaining: “Where are all the men?”

It’s not that men are pigs or men are afraid of commitment or men are this or men are that or whatever. It’s simply that men aren’t asking any more. Notice how in their rush to shame and blame men for that, they never bother to ask: “Why?”

I think it’s because they already know the answer, and they know it has nothing to do with men.

Men aren’t pigs.

Women aren’t worth it.

They’re bad with money, they don’t help with the kids, and they don’t help around the house. They demand subservience. They demand sex. And even on the one dimension they’re supposedly good for—being breadwinners—they frequently tend to screw up and get fired.

Wives
– they’re worse with money (but I’m generalising, as is the author!)
– they don’t help with the heavy lifting around the house: unclogging other people’s s~~~ from the plumbing, cutting down trees, gardening, fixing the cars, paving the driveway, painting and renovating, building the kids cubby house, etc, etc
– they demand constant reassurance and fawning over their every insecurity
– they withold sex
..etc

And for f~~~s sake, do you think after toiling away at work to try to support their family, often in dangerous and/or unpleasant environments (no petal, I’m not talking broken nails and hurt feelings), they want to get sacked?

If I was given the option, I would have rather have been “made” to stay at home cook, clean, and take care of the kids, while someone else actually worked and paid for everything, than be shot at, run over, fire bombed, blown up, baked in the sun, frozen in the snow, and spend over 1/2 my life away from home.
