Nah, not the shape of water or anything like that(haven’t seen it or even know what it’s about). I’m certain it is at least a bit different.

That’s the version I watched but I only realized there’s already an English dub after seeing the whole thing with subtitles. I’ll just link this one since I can’t vouch for the other, but you should be able to find it pretty easily.

Anyway, very interesting film. Not my usual stuff, I tend to like the more abstract or at least violent, sometimes fantasy. This was relatively normal and easy to follow despite the translation not being perfect. Also pretty lighthearted if a bit overly dramatic at points, but I think part of that is just Japanese culture.

I can’t say I’ve ever described myself as a bully, but then I suppose that’s something I have in common with the main character here. Your typical American bully trope does tend to promote the idea that bullies usually act out because of problems they have themselves, but I appreciate that it’s a bit more nuanced here. Not to say that some people aren’t just assholes or don’t know any better, but I do have the experience to say that sometimes it’s the result of many misunderstandings amongst children and their natural feelings of the world revolving around them.

Early on in school I already knew I fit the nerd stereotype. However, upon some self reflection, perhaps that is why I never seemed to take into account no one ever picked on me, and I never felt it was a big deal when I made fun of an overweight girl in the same class. Of course nowadays I think fat shaming is a bs concept and people should strive to be healthy, but with kids it’s a bit different. I did make an attempt to apologize years later, but didn’t stick around to learn much about her or be friends.

Should be glad I was homeschooled after that, but then I don’t think high school here would be the same either. Even so, I can relate a bit to the self imposed isolation, struggling with autism and giving up trying to make friends with people who find me strange, and now I can understand why. I should know seeing as I’ve known the reality of others who were autistic or deaf(I think the film is a bit “polite” about it) and that even though I didn’t necessarily dislike them, communication was simply too difficult.

Used to apologize all the time for every little thing, so that kind of stuck out to me, and was another facet of misunderstanding, misconstruing. I remember pretty well my ex telling me not to, and I guess that’s one thing I would take away from that experience, even if not for the same reason. Feminists seem to push this idea that it’s a manipulation tactic – I would posit that it simply comes from low self esteem. Over the years I’ve learned not only that I should take responsibility, but also to parse when I have actually wronged someone, and when someone is just overly sensitive and who I don’t owe anything.

Since this is a movie, I kind of expected the way it went. Don’t really think much of the world is ready to accept that isolation doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Still, I enjoyed it, will enjoy most things I can watch for free. Made me kind of nostalgic for a more blue pill time. Thing is, I know it would never be worth it to go back there.

    TL,DR

    DO I SUFFER AUTISM?

    Hell No! I enjoy it!!!

Well, it has its benefits as a MGTOW.
