Thanks to Mike Maloney who brought this masterpiece to my attention.

I provide the link to the most powerful speech on money I have heard, from the book ‘Atlas Shrugged’ by Ayn Rand and the video of Mike Maloney reading this to an audience.

    The prophecy from this speech

“When force is the standard, the murderer wins over the pickpocket. And then that society vanishes, in a spread of ruins and slaughter.

“Do you wish to know whether that day is coming? Watch money. Money is the barometer of a society’s virtue. When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion – when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing – when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors – when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you – when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice – you may know that your society is doomed.”

yup, this days the money is not in creating new things, but in the stockmarkets and the banks that “create” money out of nothing.

And all the while we are being screwed over and getting taught that to survive the screwing we must in turn go out and screw someone else over.
Honour, justice and honesty are forgotten concepts.

...And in our own despair, against our will, Comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Agamemnon; by Aeschylus
