The problem with the terms Alpha and Beta

If you been around the manosphere long enough you have come across the terms Alpha and Beta alot. Usually it refers to traits that men and sometimes women have however the term is way too subjective in nature.

Because on the one hand you have the forever alone crowd with their meaning of Alpha male being any man that is over 6 foot 2 inches who has a big paycheck coming in and was the caption of the football team in highschool. While on the other hand with the women you have them believe that the Alpha male is the perfect gentleman who practices chivarly, buys women gifts, is the right height and wants a family. Along with all the other definitions used by people but there is no standard for what to base it off of because it is way to subjective.

I mean you even have white knights who believe the Alpha male is the white knight is saves the damsel from the Beta asshole because the Beta asshole treats her like s~~~ even thou in the mind of the Alpha white knight she deserves better then him and is willing to treat her like a princess. And that the Alpha white knights goal is to even fight the Beta asshole if he must to gain access to her hand in marriage/love.

The subjectivity of the biggest problem within the terms and it is far more reasonable for the manosphere (not just mgtow) to adapt the terms niceguy/whiteknight to describe the beta side and jerk/asshole to describe the alpha side. Since even the forever alone crowd definition is flawed because even if you have all the traits of the Alpha (forever alone standard) then you could still be a niceguy or a whiteknight and that would still ruin your chances of getting action.

While the terms Alpha and Beta is not the most used in mgtow it still has problems that need to be addressed in the manosphere

The whole Alpha/Beta paradigm is fundamentally flawed in my opinion, because in the end a person will be biased. Over the years I have slipped red pill knowledge to my friends, subtly of course. One of them started waking up so to speak. He began to openly acknowledge the things I was covertly telling him.

The red pill went to his head. After a while he started calling himself an alpha, and would talk about being an alpha ALL THE F~~~ING TIME. Problem is, he has extremely beta tenancies but fails to recognize them. When I called him out on it he FLIPPED s~~~ and proceeded to shame me much like a woman would.

I stopped using alpha/beta after this. Language is not what it used to be. Men are trained from birth in post-modern discourse (the language of the politically correct) and a side effect of that is being incapable of intropspection. People nowadays will latch on to a word like a fly to s~~~; they will twist the definition to suit their ego or their agenda until it no longer has any useful meaning.

This is also a reason i don’t go and label myself the Alpha male rather i just call myself what i am an asshole. Because i know that mistakes i have made in my past would not fall under 100 percent Alpha so i just keep becoming a bigger asshole as time goes on and i learn more but i don’t judge myself to the system of Alpha/Beta.

Also i have intrusive thoughts at time (thoughts you can’t control but its your own head not some voice) that state to be a white knight or to be a nice guy etc. Because while it does not always happen every day there still is the chance my mind will shift to what would be called a beta tendency.

Another massive problem is that they are both based in relation to women and how women perceive men. If only an alpha is a “real man” and there are only a few alphas compared to all the betas, then doesn’t that mean betas are the “real men”. They are the vast majority, and they are the most common example of men.

As for me, the definitions seem to change, but I don’t get too caught up in it. I quit giving a s~~~, oh, I have to do a b c and d to be an alpha? according to you? Well in the grand scheme of things, your opinion doesn’t really f~~~ing matter. My opinion matters. I don’t give a f~~~ about how you feel I am, an alpha or beta, I don’t give a s~~~, because it doesn’t affect my life.

The terms “alpha” and “beta” exist for a reason. An alpha is someone who is very good at persuading others. A beta is bad at it.

I believe that these are useful terms for understanding human social and sexual dynamics, but some people misunderstand these terms. PUA philosophy is grounded in the belief that anyone can become an alpha and the belief that being an alpha is inherently good.

There are plenty of alphas that spend their whole lives bossing people around but never listen to anyone. As a result, alphas seldom experience deep brotherhood.

True friendship cannot exist between two men who are constantly trying to dominate and outdo each other. Without the quest for deep brotherhood in my mind, I would not have chosen the MGTOW path.

Alpha and Beta are a real thing, but most people fail to realize the most interesting parts:
Most men can be “alpha” or “beta” in different periods of their lives.
At the edge a man can be “alpha” on Friday night and “beta” two days later, when he’s tired or saddened.

“Alpha” basically means, at least to me, “able to attract women and f~~~ them within a short time”
“Beta”: everything else when it comes to relationships with women. Primary beta examples are married men (I consider married men almost effeminated, almost castrated)
Both “Alpha” and “Beta” are referred to an attitude towards catching women / taking validation from women.

From my PUA days (save it), Alpha fairly specifically referred to a male who had status and was in the roughly top 20% of males who f~~~ 80% of the females.

Antropologically it refers to the dominant male in a given mammalian social unit.

Eqlife has a really good point in that popular culture has taken the terms and made them nearly meaningless, but it’s reasonable to define them as the alpha being the male or select few males that the females pretty much all want to f~~~ for whatever reason, and the betas are everyone else.

Please understand that when I talk about PUA, I’m talking about the techniques and philosophies (and only the useful/true ones) and not the community. Most of those guys are wankers that can only view their self worth in terms of their “number” which is often a lot lower than they will admit. But I digress.

Appearance wise, I’m right on the cusp between what women consider Alpha and Beta. Thus some women see me as Alpha, and some as beta. Through the techniques of PUA, I was able to learn to control that perception to a degree with some/many women.

Thus I can categorize certain behaviors, postures, clothes, etc as more or less alpha or beta, but that’s fairly subjective. As relative terms I think they still have value, but the point is valid that they may be too watered down for anything objective.
