    For her part she does love Candide but it is a shallow love, more akin to lust. She wants to be faithful to Candide, but only if it will support the lifestyle that she is accustomed to.

    Life consists of two days, one for you one against you. So when it's for you don't be proud or reckless, and when it's against you be patient, for both days are test for you.

    Candide had in his hands a young woman whose (I’m paraphrasing from a translation here, a translation that is hazy in my recollection ) “breasts were high and full,” which is a statement from the old woman character in Candide. Thus, I can forgive a young man for following his little head’s advice — but only while he is still young.
