Here is an interesting gem I found while listening to a podcast of Allan Watts’ talks:

You are high up in the mountains surrounded by serenity, calm, and quiet. As you are soaking in the view and the silence, you hear cow bells ring far out in the distance.

The faint sound of the bells brings out the quietness of your surrounding in a way that hits you. In essence, you had to hear the faintest of sounds to appreciate the silence you are surrounded by.
