The most stupid VISA program you would ever see (rant inside)

Dear potential USA employer.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Joseph. I have 2 diplomas in technical disciplines, I hold a BSc in yet another technical discipline with Honors, and to put some icing on the cake I also have an MBA (top of my class, top marks, award-winning thesis).

But I am sure you have hundreds of guys like me, so let’s talk languages. You see, your company may have, or want to improve, their presence in major markets, or maybe improve their relationship with suppliers. I guess the usual suspects are China or perhaps South America. Well, don’t worry because as it so happens I possess a fluent level of Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese (not the same as the one from Portugal), and Chinese. Yes Sir, you heard me right. I spent almost 10 years in Asia Sir so I do speak Chinese.

But maybe you also ought to compete with other strong players. Would you like me to speak German as well? Because as it so happens I do. I have been living in Germany for years.

Still not impressed? Well yes maybe I am all about learning things and I have no idea about real work experience. Well, I have almost 20 years of it, 5 of them in management positions, in IT and industrial companies, mostly in blue chip companies.

But maybe you want me to have experience abroad. China, Spain, Ireland, UK, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, and California USA, among others. And no Sir, I am not talking about a 3 months deployments. I am talking YEARS living in most of these countries.

Maybe you suspect there is something wrong with my character. Well Sir, I have never ever done drugs, never got drunk, always paid my (our) taxes, and never been to jail.

So…would you like to hire me? I know, you prefer someone who got his visa in the green card lottery. Someone who may barely speak the language, someone with little to no education. Someone who may or not understand the core values (company or otherwise). Someone who

Well..I know why. We don’t want to play the VISA game. That’s why.

You probably cannot sponsor me because you are not big enough. And I don’t want to work under a VISA that, if I get fired, would kick me out of the country even if I pay taxes like everybody else. But why?

Why don’t we have a more sensible system in place?

I am not stupid. I know if we don’t regulate the country would be full of people who should not be there. But isn’t the US already importing 50 thousand people every year who probably should not be there? And how about the illegal immigrants and these pardons that do nothing but adding insult to injury?

I love the USA. Always did. I love the freedom you guys used to have, like the great George Carlin once said. I have been traveling around the world but always dreaming to go back to the US, to use my language skills and education to enrich the country like your forefathers did, and yet just because I have a shred of dignity and I want to go by the book I will probably never make it there.

And this is my rant. I hope to see a world where common sense is back to stay.

Man, you are in luck though. If you so happen to get those Comptia and Microsoft certifications, that education alone can literally be recognized all over the world. All you have to do is get these certifications and then get a sponsor to hire you in the U.S. and then that is probably your best chance to get a green card. Good luck!

Unfortunately, that’s the problem.

I was top of the class on my MBA. I can already get a work visa for the US. The problem is that it would tie me up to my employer and it would be years and years walking on eggshells and getting paid crap. You don’t hear so much about it because these employees live in fear.
