According to the AP the votes are in and we are one step closer to National Reciprocity.

Gun laws are too restrictive even in the supposedly free states (Texas, Alaska etc).

Even in those states the government still is the one dictating whether or not you have the right to own a firearm. The only benefit Alaska has is that there is a method that felons can use to get the right to own a gun back but even that is too much (i am for complete freedom so as long as you are not in prison you should have to own a firearm if you want to).

Doesn’t matter for me. I am disbarred from owning a gun because of mental illness. Just another way for the governments to discriminate against the disabled. It’s not just Federal law (although Federal law enables the problem), it’s state law, because anyone Baker Acted in Florida can’t own a gun, regardless of the reason or cause!

I’m paying close attention to this as I live in California. I will be applying for out of state CCW in January (because it’s next to impossible to get one where I live). I have to check the language of the bill but I believe there is a section which would make a out of state CCW valid even if CA is my home state. Don’t quote me just yet tho.

That’s good news for sure, but doesn’t really affect me much. Most all states that surround my home state already recognize my concealed carry license. Once I drove through Illinois and got a little nervous. Last I heard, there were only 12 states that did not recognize my license.

I believe it should be based on the type of mental illness. Is dyslexia considered a mental illness? If so, I don’t think that should keep you from owning a firearm. Being bi-polar may even be a better reason to restrict someone from having a gun. Lots of variables.
