“Menalaus, if you are really going to kill her, Then my blessing go with you, but you must do it now, before her looks so twist the strings of your heart, that they turn your mind; for her eyes are like armies, and where her glances fall, their cities burn, Until the dust of their ashes is blown by her sighs. I know her, Menalaus, and so do you. And all those who know her suffer.

    – HECUBA SPEAKING ABOUT HELEN OF TROY IN; EURIPIDES, THE TROJAN WOMEN, TRANSLATED BY NEIL CURRY

I should start by saying we stay in much more civilized times, and in being such, can in no way condone the actual violence brought against women in general. However, I believe the description of the character in question, Helen of Troy, is that of every woman.

The irony of this piece is that it was purportedly penned as a playwright in 415 BC. The first thing that comes to mind, at least to me, is of the old adage pertaining to those ‘who fail to learn history, often repeat the same mistakes’. While it is indeed a playwright, it is considered commentary for actual events that had taken place.

Further thoughts; while not on the Grand scale of destruction described here, every man, acquiring, creating and building his own personal (kingdom) with a woman at his side, has been sure to relate to this warning to some degree. His kingdom (home), his sanction, all that he has toiled for, jeopardized by the very nature of woman…

Funny, isn't it? How women thrive on a mans time, attention and resources, while simultaneously telling him he isn't enough...

“Kill” can also be taken metaphorically and mean get her out of your mind.

It makes sense to ditch her before you fall under her spell and she wreaks more havoc.

As this was written in a far different time, I’ll take our word for it. Thank you kindly for pointing that out, it’s very much appreciated.

Not giving the ever growing thot in average women any attention is a form of killing her entitlement.

As more and more social media addicted women invested their falsely elevated SMV in their real identity, the mere sight of a man not acknowledging her existence would be a blow to her identity.

I experiment with it, and cupcakes hate it so much they try all sorts of desperate antics to get my attention.

Lol, what a world we live in man.

I wonder if the phrase ‘know her’ is alluding to having slept with her.

“and all those that know her suffer.”

A co-worker recently told me, "If you want to see who someone really is, divorce them." I have found out how true this is. When your wife drops the façade of being the caring partner, you will witness all of the greed, hate, and spite that she has masked. It is truly breathtaking!
