The Cynics were big on self-improvement (as are all the schools I’m interested in) which leads to:

MGTOW: Self-Improvement IS the Solution – TruthOverEverything

7 Basic Life Hacks Men Shouldn’t Ignore http://www.returnofkings.com/56957/7-basic-life-hacks-men-shouldnt-ignore

The only thing we are in charge of, the only thing we can improve, is ourselves. Everything external is controlled by titanic forces that we can do little about, but we are in charge of how we respond to them.

Diogenes (arguably the world’s most famous Cynic) took MGHOW beyond the logical extreme of the Philosophy of Cynicism.
Wuss that I am; I’ve made quite a few compromises from his position, just to ensure my comfort (food, shelter, a pet, friends & relatives, hobbies, that kind of thing).

Society asks MGTOWs: Why are you not making more tax-slaves?

People accuse cynics of being pessimistic in nature.  I disagree entirely.  Cynics just get rid of that which is unnecessary to live (physically, emotionally, intellectually, etc.)   It is my observation that cynicism is destructive in nature, and I do not mean it in a negative manner.  They seek to destroy (mostly intellectually) that which is unnecessary in themselves and those around them.

A cynic acknowledges the natural world as good and deems modern civilizations as an unnecessary evil due to their unnatural ways of pleasure seeking and self exaltation.
