The Catholic Church gets its power through fear. Fear of the unknown. If you do not follow XYZ commandment you will go to Hell.

In the dark ages the Catholic Church would make money off of the poor and illiterate peasant’s “sins”. You literally had to pay an Indulgence to the Catholic Church for them to resolve your sins. Otherwise if you were to die unexpectedly (common in the dark ages) you would go straight to Hell. You could not ask God directly to forgive you… only the Priest and his powers could do so… for a price $!

The concept of a fiery pit of hell was invented by the Catholic Church to keep people in line. Think Dante’s “Inferno”. Priest’s could not marry because the Church was afraid that church property would be passed down through the generations and not stay in the church.

95% of the mass is spent doing rituals. Singing, chanting, prayers in unison, bible readings. There is about 10 minutes or so that is the priest’s homily (Short speech to inspire the crowd).

The problem with that formula is that people go to church to feel good about themselves and to maybe learn something new to help them in their daily lives. The 95% ritual stuff which is meant to reaffirm belief and instill fear doesn’t work in this day and age.

People now have access to the internet and unlimited information at their fingertips. Knowledge is power. Power through fear just doesn’t cut it anymore.

Those are some of the reasons behind the decline of religions, no more fear because of ignorance.

I know some sects of extresmist, there are a lot in US, but those have spread all around the world. One main point for people that go there is to cut all contact with people that are not part of the sect. Guess why? someone can talk some sense into them, and they may doubt what they are doing, that is working for 40cents/hour for they do not know who, and that who at the same time is using that money to grow his regious business and enjoy himself.

Religions started as a business, this surely will hurt people that have faith, it is an hard truth to swallow.

Get yourself informed, study the more that you can, understand that all religions were made by MEN and not by some other magical creatures.

@grumpy your reply is mindblowing, some years ago, I thought about soldiers that went to fight in other countries as puppets for interests. Mainly for resources, no matter the excuse, may it be mass destruction weapons(non existent), bring democracy, bring peace etc.

Now I realize that I am not against you guys, who are the backbone of our countries, because a country without an army is a dead country, as long as we have more countries fighting each other. I am against the enstablishment that uses you as mercenaries for interests, may those be economic, cultural or else. I once spoke with an italian soldier, he could feel my disappointment, things were not smooth(I kinda feel like he was about to beat me, lol, I just speak directly and fear nothing) until I directly said “I just feel sad because you have to fight for the enstablishment’s people interests, because you are treated like a mercenary and NOT like a soldier of our country, I would like you to defend our country and to fight battles that we cannot avoid”.

Iraq’s war is the main war I use in those kind of topics, as the rest of the wars in Africa or any other places, I’d have to research and study by myself, because our media prevents us from knowing more about it.

In the hope that your service has meant more for your people than for the rich f~~~ers abusing armies all around the world, I hope that you may find peace from the ghosts that chase your nights.

The Catholic Church was never a Christian church, it was a uniting of a load of pagan sun-worshipping religions by the first pope who was a sun-worshipper himself and wished to unite the fracturing Roman empire, I read the very word “Catholic” means unity.
