If you’re a “ghost” in your society, you can pass through the Wall of Expectations that people erect in front of you. You can politely refrain from the sort of office gossip that will entrap you. You can quietly get your work done while co-workers are spewing verbal nonsense. You can live modestly while adding savings and dividends to your bank account—let the world think you’re broke. Who cares? You know what you’re worth. You decide what your own status is instead of your family, your friends, your co-workers, your boss, the sexy women you want to date/f~~~, and the strangers around you.

You can do stuff without bragging about it. No one needs to know about your plan to amass a fortune with your 401(k) plan, IRA, rental properties, business investments, etc. Your debts get paid off while other people are addicted to swiping their credit cards. Your spare time can be used for self-improvement or hobbies. You can take classes to learn new job skills, read books, play video games, exercise, go on road trips with your buddies, etc. No nagging wife or girlfriend will prevent you from looking for better jobs in new locations, making business deals, making investments, and going off on some adventure.

You can spend your life being judged as someone who doesn’t have a lot of money and a good reputation, and it won’t bother you. You can laugh at the criticisms and negative opinions. They are shooting arrows at you and hitting nothing. People are going to judge you because you’re not spending money on a girlfriend, you’re not looking to find women to “hook up with” in the bars and dance clubs, you’re driving a car that’s 10 years old instead of buying a brand new car, you’re not following trends, you’re not wearing expensive name brand clothing, you’re not living in an expensive apartment or house, and you’re not doing what everyone else is doing—which is wasting money and trying to be the envy of their social circle.

They want to BE SEEN and socially recognized for their greatness while you already have your intrinsic greatness—which is unseen.

    Enjoy your lives, MGTOWs.

I’ll say it in as few words as possible.

Not being held accountable or responsible in any way for another person’s poor decisions and childish behavior.

Ghost is the liberation from bondage be it directly or indirectly, it’s the maintenance of personal sovereignty above all else.

Ahh yes, much like in this classic movie sequence (“at the doors of Valhalla”):

That was the very first thought which crossed my mind having read this part of your quote, he he …

I'd rather die a natual death with a clear MGTOW conscience somewhere off the grid than one within "modern" civilisation with a big stress mark on my forehead and a couple of dozen tubes plugged into my body. @funinthesun you got it down pat, I do pretty much the same thing as you…driving the same car for 12 years, invest most of my money, save tons of money renting, and live below my means. I see friends blow through money on stupid stuff and eating out all the time, I am surprised they can maintain their rent.

At the strategic level, ghosting is primary and infinite in scope.

I used to hate being socially invisible but truth be told being able to leave social events without people noticing, being able to just walk away from conversations and people expecting me to not show up when I don’t feel like it turned out to be an immense blessing.

People feel social obligations to others because people keep going to social events which creates a cycle of obligation.

If you give someone a gift, they will feel compelled to give you one back. People give with the expectation to give something back and before they know it they’re stuck in an infinite loop of social obligations.

Just say no. If you want to help someone help them with something tangible. I helped my old neighbor today cutting off branches from a tree, I don’t expect him to return the favor and he understands there is no obligation between us but I also know he will be there to help me should I ever need any real help.

There’s a fine line between stupid gift giving, social obligation cycles and being a decent human being. Only the latter lets you be a ghost.

Good post fun in the sun… I am really enjoying my life as a ghost. And whilst people probably don’t think I am broke because I wear nice shoes and drive a nice car I do so because I want to and not because people will think one way or the other about me.

I believe I’ve been Ghosting for almost two decades; yet, it’s difficult for me to define. I suppose it’s something on the order of ..
Let’s say I live at the center house on a quiet city street. On one corner of the block is a beautiful new convenience store that has display cases full of every treat or snack a guy could want. There is also a friendly clientele and attractive female workers at the store .. it’s easy to shop there. On the other end of the block is a row of brightly lit vending machines selling the same ready to eat meals and drinks from virtually the same manufacturer.

It’s snowing and the roads are slippery .. I’m getting a little hungry and I decide to walk down the sidewalk to get a treat. I’m going for an energy drink and a hot slice or two of pizza to take home with me. Do I turn East and go to the store where they have human workers and sales persons, gals who smile and chat with the customers .. or do I walk West for half a block and buy from the row of icy drink and hot pizza vending machines? .. basically, same food, different atmosphere.
It’s a no-brainer for me to head for the mechanical machines .. besides, the machines don’t require a word of small talk as I make my purchases. In Japan and Nashville, they are now offering automobiles from vending machines. At some airports, you can buy .9999 pure gold bars and even prescription eyeglasses from automated machines.
I bought my last riding lawnmower and snowblower online .. and they weren’t small. They were delivered by freight to my door, just fine, and have been some of the best I’ve ever owned. I rarely need stores with human salespeople anymore for anything. Ghosting is actually getting easier and easier for me as new technology comes into play.
As soon as they develop coin operated robotic dentists that can diagnose and fill a tooth, I won’t need face to face interaction for nearly anything .. anymore.

Ghosting. I like it. Describes me perfectly. some of my ghosting techniques include doing early morning shopping. Walmart is open 24 hours and the grocery stores around here Open at 7 AM. So I’m usually done with my shopping for the week by 7:30 AM and no crowds and no people. Then I spend my weekends at my beautiful home in the country with just nature surrounding me. Thanksgiving will be me myself and I eating steak and watching football all day. It’s a wonderful life

Sums it up nicely. I don’t know how many times some consumerist debt slave made some snotty comment to me about something I should spend money on, and the only thought that crosses my mind is “sorry, I don’t take financial advice from broke morons.” Its so childish…what do they expect I’ll run and blow piles of money on things I don’t give a s~~~ about just because they do?

What am I supposed to do run out and buy an 80 inch tv, the latest smart phone, and a brand new car just so I can brag for a few months before someone buys a bigger tv, a better phone, or a newer car? No thanks lol. The one thing in life you need money for I’d care to brag about would be retiring early when I get there, and only because its going to be the ultimate slap in the face to all the people who have talked s~~~ over the years about being cheap, and all the people who try to tell me to buy dumb s~~~ they’d buy if they had money, only they wasted all their money on other dumb s~~~ and can’t.

Being a ghost is almost like being a non person. You aren’t there, and thus able to avoid much of s~~~ty human behavior. People can think what they want, bottom line is that you’re doing you’re own thing and you don’t count on other people to hold your hand, validate your choices, and constantly whisper reassurance in your ear.

Very encouraging verse. God values us even when the world does not.

I have discovered a truly remarkable list of reasons why women are not necessary for a happy life, but alas this margin is too small to contain it.

I wish there was a shopping center with only vending machines. I hate having to stand in line & wait for someone in front of me to decide what (s)he wants to eat. Sometimes I’m at a fast food place and I have to wait for an ENTIRE FAMILY to decide what they want to eat. They are staring at the menu and they don’t know what they want whereas I know what I want and it will only take a minute for me to get it.

The vending machines can eliminate all that. If can get pizza, Chinese food, coffee, sports drinks, candy bars, toothpaste, paper plates, plastic forks, deodorant, toilet paper, ramen noodles, paper towels, etc., with a vending machine, I’ll never have to waste time standing in line again.

    Nice one @funinthesun

Ghosting in a society where people judge you as “weird” and “abnormal” is difficult- especially as a young man.

I keep getting pressured by peers and more especially, family. To “live a normal life”. If only they understood the kind of slavery they are in.

My mother keeps talking about how I “need orientation” and it’s getting to the point where I might spew some bitter truths in their faces.

[“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind….” Romans 12:2]

It is just what people do, they will talk s~~~ about you, no matter what you do, no matter how you change, IT DOES NOT MATTER. They will talk badly behind your back and then act like they like you a lot when you are around. Did you got fatter? they will attack you on that side, did you get ripped? then you are a gym freak, the envy is eating them alive, they hate that you can live by yourself, they just hate it.

The only person that matter is yourself, only your opinion about yourself counts, but be aware that doing s~~~ is gonna have consequence, no matter what you believe about yourself, you are still a human, remember this forever. Each single action has a reaction.
Let them shoot arrows, let them hit nothing, because when you are a ghost nothing can hit you.
