I’ve been celebrating Christmas and other holidays like a good boy for 30 some years now and I have seen christmas go from a gathering of a large part of the family, fun and games and lots of food go to just the closest relatives with a brightly colored tree and gifts for all down to just me and my ex and a slew of gifts (mostly for her) with an absolutely horrific plastic tree and multi colored ‘decoration’. All holidays seem to have devolved from something with actual meaning or a get-together of family to a meaningless exercise in gift-giving.
I think there’s no reason for any of these holidays anymore. They do no longer carry any meaning other than the commercialized shopping trip attached to them which is hardly meaningful by itself.
Unfortunately there’s a stigma attached to not celebrating stuff like I do (or don’t rather) and there’s always someone who figures out that your birthday was last week and then gets all ’empathetic’ and feels the need to tell everyone. If you then bring up you don’t celebrate then all I get is ‘that’s so sad’… I don’t really see it that way. If I really feel like treating myself, I go and do that irrespective of what day of the week or date it may be, with or without friends whatever the case may be.
I wonder if it’s just a woman thing or corporate brainwashing to celebrate things on certain fixed days and they just drag everyone with them; Or maybe ‘its just sad’ after all that I don’t feel the need to participate in the endless cycle of pointless shopping sprees.

And people go insane at Christmas time. In my 18 years in end-consumer service I would get so exhausted that I would sleep for 2 days after Christmas Eve.

Anonymous1I used to live in a big city, almost 1 million of people, try to imagine those people plus foreigners driving around to buy s~~~, in the shops, in the malls, EVERYWHERE. It just turns people crazy, and I cannot deal with it, my favourite spot for christmas? My home.
About the great lunch with the whole family, it is a funny time, mostly because some of my relatives are so greedy that some of the past years the presents actually made me and my family laugh on the trip back home. The best ones: a set of coffee cups that resembled a water(no kidding here), another year a floor detergent, another year they were selling some products like perfume and beauty s~~~, so they just packed one of those and there you go, another s~~~ty present for an unforgettable christmas. Luckily one of my aunts is not greedy with us, and at least give us some money.
Tbh I feel a bit of shame in writing that things, even if I never did presents like those, it feels bad to have people of that kind in my family tree.
Anyway, christmas for me is just a time to see how can my relatives go on until they die, look at my bluepilled cousin(which I used to like, until he decided to call me a coward just because I did not do a thing that his girlfriend asked me, “how can you say no to my girlfriend? you coward” told him that it was the last time he called me a coward with no consequences, and he just lowered his face in silence) getting fooled by a girl, and practically just live the same stuff of the year.
I must admit that lately it has been even more funny, because with the years some things surface, and I can realize how much some things were/are f~~~ed up for some of my relatives. And that told me a lot of my father aswell, he just flew away from that place and those people, he was smart enough. But he had a sense of family and so during the holidays we always reunited the family(it is mostly because of our culture I guess).
Edit, forgot to write: in October we already have the panettone(italian christmas cake) in the markets, before they were selling those in December, then in November and I see a future in which they will sell that s~~~ for the whole year.

My dad was home and the 3 bitches were nagging him around so long until he broke out in rage. And sometimes he would throw the burning Christmas tree through the living room. We had to put it out fast…
But the tension field between my choleric father and the 3 bitches was extremely high during the entire festive season.
Christmas was always a horrible time, and I swore never to have a family at all.
The bitching, swearing and guilt shaming of my father by these 3 wenches went on and on and there was no peace.
After 1972 or so, we would have electric candles on the tree… And the official reason was that they were afraid of the boy (me) playing with them and setting the place on fire…
Back then, electric candles were “unusual” and they had to find a scapegoat to blame it on. Only I knew that the women are lying in order to cover up the scene of destruction that they created by provoking my father to hell every year.
Of course my father should have stood up to the bulls~~~ but he was raised to obey his evil mother c~~~. And to fear his strict, violent and abusive father…
And so he just exploded.

Solution: Remember the reason for the season. Its about the birth of Christ; nothing more nothing less. No Santa or any other bulls~~~.
Christmas was in my family anyway a decent time, my family is mostly all Italian so family events are a big deal so at least it was relaxing. However Christmas as a holiday is f~~~ed now, it’s heavily over commercialized and all about getting materials over what it was actually about. I am not a religious person but for those who believe it was about christ and not about some Gucci bag you have to have. I was once at a friends house as a kid listening to his sister cry like a little baby because she did not get the right doll as a present. I was just thinking to myself (at the age of 11 at that time) I was just happy to get anything and have some good food.

Is this also true here in Deutschland? I’ve been lucky as I never have had to spend a christmas here. I’ve constantly been sent elsewhere for business purposes. Elsewhere being an island for with much warmer (tropical) weather the last 2 years.

Anonymous24Being an Atheist, I have hated Christmas for quite some time now. It was fun when I was a kid, but I would be just fine with never attending ever again. Ditto for Thanksgiving as well. I think whenever an individuals grandparents die, it is all downhill from there as far as the holidays go. Also, my generation has far fewer kids, so just from the drop in numbers makes the whole thing feel more and more like an apocalypse survivors meeting at this point.

Christmas is just something to make people buy overpriced things and gave to each other. But between couples is like you give her a 100$ thing that she wants, and she give you a pair of socks. And women usually compete between them, about who got the “biggest” gift.Kids who have parents that don’t have that much money, feel isolated from others because they can’t “get what other kids get”.
back in my blue pill days, there was a friend of mine who was a single mom, she was poor, lived with his parents, and I decided to make a good thing and give to her daughter a present. I bought an dvd from some cartoons that the kid liked back in those days, and guess what ? For christmas she bought a lingerie to use with her boyfriend, but to her daughter she didn’t buy anything.
When I get in her home to give her daughter the gift, she asked me to go with her to her room, and she showed me her “present to herself and his bf”.

True!! It wasn’t like this before. Now they start the Christmas-sales earlier and earlier, until it’s Christmas-sales every day of the year!

Yeah, I always have a hard time guessing the “right stuff”, so I just ask them to write a list for me to choose from. And I have delegated the purchasing to mom, I just send her some money and tell her to buy stuff for the kids in the family. I have no idea what people want. So the biggest surprise is for me as I usually never know what “I” gave them….

Since commercial TV hit in the mid-80’s every spiritual thing is going down. Wherever you look. It’s all about materialistic things.
I saw the degradation of societal values in my customer base from year to year. And women are the prime targets of TV advertising. And all of this is highly psychological.
That is why I always listened to “strange” radio stations and hardly any TV besides documentaries and news. I can’t stand German commercials.

The spirit and culture of Xmas in the UK has changed beyond recognition since I was a kid in the 70’s. I can honestly say I had no idea what my presents were going to be until I opened them on Xmas morning. I was always pleased with what I got, appreciated it and took good care of it. Now its just a written list of demands and accusations of being an asshole parent if they don’t get what they want. Also because of PC bulls~~~, the cultural side of it has been stripped away. A friend who used to work in a London council were forbidden to have any cards on display with a religious scene, and the Christmas works party was renamed to a festive feast.
Women are so bad, if they changed the law so I kept the house, I still wouldn't marry one. I'd rather be homeless.
