    2004.

As I was coming back from my walk to check the mail, there she was. Golden tan. Tight, black spandex, and a hot pink top with blonde hair in a ponytail.

We made eye contact. I said “Hello” with a smile. She greeted me back. I wished her a great day, unlocked the door to my apartment and walked inside.

One day later, I woke up from a nap before work. I opened the door to go outside and notice this magnetic hook with a blue envelope attached to my door. I opened the envelope to find a message that said, “Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if by any chance you have a phone book? I have a lot of questions about this place and you’re the only friendly face I’ve seen. I would greatly appreciate it. Have a great day!”

In my blue pill dementia, I thought YES! This is my chance to make a connection with the hottie that moved in next door! And it just so happened that I had TWO phone books!

Feeling 6 feet tall, I gathered the phone books, placed them in a Walmart bag and with a grin, I merrily walked over to her apartment and knocked on her door. No answer. I knocked again. No answer. Therefore, I hung the bag on the door knob and went for a walk.

A couple of days later, we encountered each other again and introduced ourselves. It was a pleasant conversation about where she was from and what brought her here.

She then invited me in for a cold drink (no alcohol), and we continued to talk some more. She was still in the process of getting all of her accounts set up (cable/phone). She asked if I knew how to set up an internet connection, which I did. It was a dial up connection. She asked, “Do you leave your Internet running?” ” I do. Only because I have a cable connection,” I replied. “In your case, I wouldn’t.”

She thanked me, we exchanged numbers, and I invited her for coffee tomorrow afternoon. She accepted. I left that day for work on Cloud 9.

However, nothing could prepare me more for the events that were about to unfold.

    To Be Continued. . .
