So as most of you know yesterday (and have known for over a year), I’ve had issues with the newer management of the university I work at since she came in.

Since it feels like she’s closer and closer to letting me go, I went to a temp agency and interviewed with them.

They said my resume looks great and that I’d be a good fit for some of the positions they have.

Right now, I live 10 minutes from work and make $12.49 an hour, which after taxes and benefit deductions is about $1500 a month.

I’m given the opportunity to work at a library in a city about 25 minutes from me that would pay $13.00 an hour. $0.50 increase for a significantly further drive, but with work experience I’m familiar with…and weirder hours.

There’s also a “logistics” position that requires a load of computer knowledge that I have already in a city that’s about 15 minutes away, and pays $15-$18 an hour. It’s temp to full time, so it has the potential to be permanent. It’s 12 hour shifts there. I’ve never worked a 12 before, but it’s nothing I probably couldn’t handle. It could be either 6AM – 6PM or vice versa. Sounds interesting the more I think of it.

$15-$18 an hour. It’s temp to full time,

That’s a substantial increase! A 12 hr shift has it’s advantages, it works out to 3.33 days for a 40 hr week, giving you 3 days off one week and 4 days off the next, I pulled some of the heaviest overtime working a 12 hr. shift, and 4 days off? That’s a double barrel weekend!

Logistics is an interesting field. Glad to hear things are working out for you!

Nicely done. Time to get out of the rut. Maybe you can look forward to leaving a giant poo on your boss’ [?bosses] desk soon.

Good for you. ANYTHING sounds better than that sinkhole of a wasp’s nest you’re in right now.

As few words as possible. Just do your job and anyone who distracts you (including that bitch) can be reminded that you’re too busy to talk to her. She can’t nail you for that. This is what your description of that bitch reminded me of yesterday….

Obviously it’s just a movie, but there is something to be said about having the cojones to grab the situation by the b~~~~ and take some control. If you haven’t seen the film … it’s “WANTED” with Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman. Its about a guy who doesn’t know who he is, stuck in a s~~~ty job, with a bitch girlfriend who’s f~~~ing his “friend”…..

Last line of the movie is “what the f~~~ have you done lately”.

Enjoy. And may the force be with you.

bitch) can be reminded that you’re too busy to talk to her. She can’t nail you for that.

Actually, I DID do that around Wednesday last week. I was busy doing my work, doing a lot of typing/data entry and keeping focused on it. She came up and asked me about some issue (as usual) and I was listening to her, but because I wasn’t LOOKING at her, she said “can you PLEASE stop doing that and look at me and listen to me!?”

I wanted to say “okay, let me drop all the work you’re saying you want me to do and look at you so you can tell me how I did something wrong, even though we talked about this earlier that day.” Good mercy that was a test of my patience at that moment. Took a LOT in me not to walk out after that.

If there’s anything I can’t stand, it’s being interrupted for petty things. But then again, I guess me working and listening to her at the same time was part of my “attitude.”

Taking the first step is good! But choose wisely!
12 hours of work a day can be exhausting. One cannot concentrate that long without having some short pauses like lunch break and some coffee breaks. But if you really will have longer weekends, and can tolerate that stress and exhausting days for lifetime, go for it.

I know what I am taking about, when I was a PhD student, I worked and learned from 8-9 am to 7-9 pm 5 days a week, for some years. 9-12 hour days depending on the amount of work that could be done. Sometimes done some work at weekends too. And done lots of physics experiments at night, because building was empty, no vibration to disturb the data, and devices were free to use. Published the articles. Defended PhD thesis. Broken up girlfriend because relationship bitching stressed me at work. Sacrified everything I could for science. Fanaticism at best. I Keep going, this is my life goal.

For now, I work 8 hours a workday on average (between 6-12 depending on what happens) for approximately $1000 a month after taxes etc. Life is cheap as dirt here, so I can save up two thirds of it for my future apartment (need some years at least), and to finally get my driving licence and maybe a car (but that’s not sure, bicycle is enough now.)
