I’ve had a gun barrel in my mouth more than once in my lifetime—come that close but never pulled the trigger obviously.

Why didn’t I? Because doing so is to give up and admit defeat. Admit that “they” win and you lose. (Watch the last 30 minutes of the movie Downfall sometime. Here we have the vaunted SS men, the super soldiers and what are they doing? collectively blowing their brains out. Yeah that’s heroic NOT! What a contrast between someone like Michael Wittmann and these “heros” in Berlin! )

No if I go I go down it won’t be because I gave up I go down fighting and I won’t go down easily or alone.

The only suicide I give a pass to is Rommel because he did it to save his family.

    Don’t do it.
It’s a permanent solution to TEMPORARY problems.
Stick around and see what happens. .you’ll be surprised.
Time has a way of fixing things that seem impossible to fix.

Are we supposed to comment on the notion of suicide? I’ve got several.

    1) Death with Dignity. When I go out, I intend to set the time, place and method myself. That is technically suicide… but it’s not drawing from a place of depression, self-loathing or worthlessness but of preserving my self and not letting western healthcare and death ritual do damage to me while I’m going and after I’m gone.

    2) Financial Emancipation. I can forsee a potential situation where I have painted myself into an economic corner from which I do not care to do the work of extracting myself. If this unfortunate series of events were to occur, I would have little compunction against pulling the drain plug on myself. I’ve done good and I’ve done well and I’m not going to live a life of slavery just to keep on living.

    3) Disaster Relief. There are quite a number of potential SHTF scenarios (let’s be honest, most of them) wherein things would get so bad so quickly that life as we know it could be said to have ceased to exist. Any grid-down situation that lasted for more than 30 days would essentially spell the end of civilization in this country and most likely the world. In that case, I’ve got a bullet with my own name on it and I would rather eat it than have someone else waste one of theirs on me.

    4) Disaffection. I can imagine arriving at some point in my life where one or more of the above concerns have not gotten individually severe enough to call the shot but where two or three have conspired to make life not worth living anymore. If I were to find myself in a position where my physical or mental health had deteriorated to the point where I did not enjoy being alive any more, my financial situation had gotten to the point where I was struggling to survive and society had degraded to the point where I had no hope for future improvement, I would happily put a bullet in my own head.

There’s an old saying in show business… get off the stage while the audience is still clapping. I’m approaching 50 and for me, my adult life has been one long standing ovation. While some thinning of the audience is to be expected before the show is over, I want to be safe and warm back in the green room well before the sound dies out and the lights come up.

Suicide is, to my mind, only problematic when it’s seen as a lazy solution to an easily solvable problem. A proper, nutritious diet, some pleasant exercise and a challenging project will probably save most anyone from generalized depression and despair so give that a try first. But if you’re getting to the end of your tunnel and you’re hearing what sounds like a train heading your way, I’m not going to blame you for getting off the tracks.

    Not worth it

Theres nothing that cant be solved and whats the worst that can happen.

Bankrupt? So what. The bank cant shoot you.
    Addiction? Can be solved
Overweight Unfit? Can be very easily solved quite enjoyably.
Relationship fail? Forget about her and go your own way.
Job sucks? Don’t get too involved, just do what you have to do in work, no f~~~s given.Just play the game to take their money and live for the time outside of work. Unless my work is definitely going to promote me, Im not going out of my way for them and I will be putting myself first.

Then theres also people in other parts of the world who have it a lot worse than us.

Why not go out at a time of your own choosing rather than wait until your body finally packs up? Yes it’s selfish, but is it anymore selfish than childbirth or expecting someone to suffer in silence in order to prevent hurting others?

We need to demystify death and stop pussyfooting around with goddam euphemisms. If it were up to me every competent adult would have access to a suicide pill, as an insurance policy.

I also tend to agree with Doug Stanhope.

In real life when a person is depressed there tends to be people that vear away because they don’t know how to deal with the situation or what to say to the person especially when suicide is involved .

Just the word SUICIDE will bring desperation and awkwardness in how to deal with the situation or what to say or do .

I wonder how many seen this thread that word SUICIDE and didn’t want to think about it due to have been in that horrible place them selves which would of thought about what they would of been thinking at the time which drove them to that place .

Just from the few that answered this thread i see that the word also in answers was mostly aimed as a message to others and not so much ones self , externilizing . The most raw answer i seen was pete’s but dont worry pete i would say alot that would of avioded this thread would of answerd in the way you did . Religious beliefs played a part to .
Situation was another common factor .

So many different factors to consider when dealing with suicide which i think makes it a stressfulsituation when dealing with a person going threw it . I think if there were more replies it would of shown a pattern to everyone of you that answerd .

In the time you wrote a reply i wonder how many took there own lives , men , women and children .

    All lives matter

May god welcome them into his kingdom .

    SUICIDE

    * Normally a plea for help or interaction.

    * Not a viable end for non-painful life threatening times.

    * Leaves survivors grief stricken and hurt for life.

    * Myth of relief.

    * Does it help anyone>?

edit> I see you wrote an epilogue so never mind my late response.
yes it gets a reaction. NO.

    * Does it include allowance of a natural death>? I think not; how about you>?

    with joy/without hate
