    Suffering is inevitable in life.

Wear it well. Like a badge of honour, without the pride.

Not because it makes you look tough, stoic, not for women.

But for yourself. Have humility. Men respect other men who’ve been through the grinder and are still going despite near destruction.

Such men have a lot to offer other men. They are often calm, compassionate, wise. Not excitable, not quick to anger. Usually with a sense of humour.

Don’t be an angry or bitter dude.

Take your suffering and turn yourself into something greater than if you’d never suffered at all.

Suffering doesn’t last forever if you admit it, enter into it, and emerge from it all the stronger. Suffering lasts forever if you don’t do those things.

Tonight I visited my neighbor ..

Such men have a lot to offer other men. They are often calm, compassionate, wise. Not excitable, not quick to anger. Usually with a sense of humour.

he’s an older guy .. he keeps an old wood fired stove going in his workshop where he escapes for some peace and quiet .. it’s a free standing building about five hundred feet from his house.

We sat and chatted as he smoked his tobacco pipe .. he likes cherry tobacco.

He was a former commercial pilot and flew many years back and forth across the Atlantic .. he’s now in his late 70’s or early 80’s.

he is married to a Norwegian gal he met during flying days .. she’s also almost 80 years … however, his wife rarely visits his shop, I’ve never ever seen her over there ..

it’s mainly for the guys .. he keeps a coffee pot going on top of the stove.
I always enjoy visiting him because we just sit and chat by that old stove .. you can’t beat wood heat for good warmth during winter.
Tonight we talked mainly about old radios .. and he told about the days before TV when they ran home to listen to radio shows.
We also talked a little about space travel and he mentioned some of the strange sights that he and his crew witnessed during his flying years .. sights and lights at night .. over the Atlantic. He said many of them couldn’t be explained .. lights that shouldn’t have been there often times pacing his plane .. but were. It was a good conversation.

Beautifull, foolish, but beautifull. I like it.

Great message. I am coming round to this notion. We were raised to be hedonistic consumers here in USA. Always chasing after comfort and “happiness.” After having my life ruined through a disease, I have had to learn to live with suffering.

I have come to realize that life is suffering. The important thing is how you deal with it. Will you let suffering ruin your life or will make something out of it?
