Step one of wood carving

First of all you will need timber .

The timber i advise to start with is a soft timber . Campha lorrol ,western red ceda is nice thats some examples . You can go to a timber place and ask if it is cool to grab some off cuts out of there bin .

So i will start with a speed boat .

Get a pencil and draw or if you are not a good drawer copy the shape of the boat on to the timber as if you are looking side on to the boat.If you make a midtake when drawing just use a rubber .Draw the wind shield and even draw the seat rising above the hull . And the hood that covers the inboard engine rising just above the hull . Also don’t forget the drive shaft part that sticks out below the hull .dont worry about the prop .

Then on your bench cut it out with a jig saw . If you can’t get the nooks and crannies to close don’t worry you can clean that up later .

Then it is time to start with the dremel multi tool . Have a practice for first time on a piece of scrap to get the feel of what your using does. I will just go straight to the coarsed sanding drum . Begin sanding and shaping the hull ,trust me it is easy as it sounds . From there your confidence will grow by it’s self . It is a slow process but relaxing .

NOTE.THIS IS HALF A BOAT SO YOU CAN MOUNT IT ON A BACK BOARD .

Later on i will do a thread on full stand alone carvings later because they are much harder .

When finished rub it down with fine sand paper .

Cut what ever shape back board you want with the jig saw then with the dremel use a drum sander and touch the edge one step at a time all the way around to fancy it up

Or you can fancy the edge up with the dremel grinding mini disk witch also burns the timber for a better affect .Just go all the way around just touching the edge

Nice blade. It’s good to get on the tools every now and then.
