I was never a fan of salad. I actually hated it. However, I picked up a Ninja blender on CraigsList for 50 bucks and started to blend. So far, it’s helped a lot with the urges to eat. I can get buy with 2 smoothies and dinner pretty nicely it seems. Hopefully, the less protein intake will not be hurtful to my muscles.

My smoothie (pulp and all, not just juice – very important):

1 apple or banana or pear
    A cup of strawberries
    A cup of spinach
    A head of broccoli
    A cup of heirloom tomatoes
    2 TBSP of vanilla extract
    2 TBSP of cinnamon
    A handful of parsley
    5 stalks of celery
    1 green pepper

The only prob. I am running into is the cost. I am buying from Stop N Shop. Anyone know if Aldi would be cheaper? I was thinking about buying in Costco, but the fruits and veggies might turn too fast that I’d have to throw it out.

Open for tips on lowering the cost. I’ve seen a boost of energy and happy not to eat those processed snacks that are supposed to be “healthy” anymore.

I need to get better shape, about 10 lbs over weight, and feel bad about it.

    Don’t forget soups.

Sometimes a good veg soup hits the spot. Me, one of my favorites is Irish Root Soup.

I like Aldis, lower cost for food and the stuff that is prepackaged has WAY LESS chemicals and is healthier.

I buy almost everything there, but I keep tabs on the sales flyers for other stores.

Yep, that and ginger, turmeric and chia are going to be added. I’ve been watch Dr. Berg’s videos on Youtube for juicing. Still learning. I wanted a Vitamix, but I am not spending 400 bucks for a blender. LOL. Ninja works fine. Though, let’s see if it lasts.

I still have two regular meals such as eggs in the morning and a protein dinner. This is just for the lunch meal and to x-out cravings and snacking.

If I told you how much it cost for the ingredients above from Stop N Shop, it would blow your mind.. The kicker is it isn’t even organic. They wanted 3 bucks a pound for a f~~~ing apple. If we want to get rid of the fat slobs, diabetes and nutritional deficients, we need to add subsidies to FARMERS, not big chemical corn companies (I.E. Monsanto).

Going to Aldi tomorrow and compare the prices. We have a Whole Foods here, but I cringe on how much the veggies might cost..

Buy the dried and extract ingredients online in bulk.
They won’t spoil before you use them. For the fresh stuff well, shop around.

Try growing some of your fruit and vegetables hydroponically. For example I grew butter lettuce at 1/18th of the cost of one shop bought lettuce. Also grew my own pak choy, tomatoes and basil. Savings used to purchase high quality vegetable juicer.

Dried veggies? Never heard of that. I tried frozen whole fruits as they are so much cheaper, but it busted my blade in my blender. Hence the need for a new(er) one. This Ninja cuts through everything. :0)

I’ve been throwing around the idea of building a greenhouse. But they can be a pain to put together as I am only one person. I spoke to some people on Home Advisor, they want like 1k to build the unit and that’s before the cost of the greenhouse. The greenhouse is another 1k – 2k. In the end, it may be worth it. We shall see. I need to run the #’s.

Just had my smoothie. I added Apple Cider Vinegar and Turmeric. Really kills the flavor. The rest was spinach, celery, apple, cinnamon, pure vanilla extract and heirloom tomatoes. Need more veggies tomorrow. Green peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, strawberries, cucumber, kale and ginger… These drinks are going to get expensive.

I am thinking of separating each day into bags and then freezing the rest. Take it out the night before and allow it to defrost in the fridge. Therefore, it’s ready for juicing in the morning. Once it gets warm out, for some reason, veggies and fruit do not last long; even in the fridge.

Agreed. While it may be healthier, the science is not 100%. Then again, it really depends on who is paying for the study as well. I’d prefer chemical free, but I’m not going to pay double for something just because it says it’s organic. I’ve heard many a times that just because it states it’s organic, doesn’t really mean it’s truly organic anyway. Possibly at the farmers market, but that may be it.

I learned on Youtube how to blanch and freeze veggies and fruits, so I am going to hunt around and see what’s available for bulk buys.
