Anyone playing any horror stuff for Halloween? I guess mostly I’m trying to forget about Mario Odyssey until I can afford a Switch.
I’m not usually one for the genre, hate being scared. Think the only straight horror I’ve played to completion was Shadows of the Damned, and that was more because of Suda51’s involvement than anything. Oh, and I guess Deadly Premonition counts, but I played that more for the story and characters.
I do appreciate some through watching others play on YouTube. Mostly I find that I definitely wouldn’t enjoy something, but some look like they’d be good if I wasn’t too afraid to play. RE4 and to a lesser extent, 7 look fine. Wondering if I should bother tracking down Silent Hill 2 and Rule of Rose.
Really I’m just a sucker for a good story, which is why I bought Siren today. And it’s not the streamlined remake but rather the original, which I understand gets to be kinda tedious and cryptic. Suppose I’m looking at it as a challenge. Plus I don’t really like the American cast written for the remake. It’s a shame because I feel the art design and music are just as good.
There are other creepy games that are just far enough off that they aren’t quite horror. Drakengard gets pretty crazy with its giant man eating babies, tried to complete it but some of it is just not designed well. Chulip on the surface is light hearted but something about the tone really irks me, and it’s just as easy to die there than in any of these other games.
"I have the fury of my own momentum." "With this ring I thee wed. Fire walk with me."
The first Diablo game is pretty creepy. The dungeons are very dark, so you can only see the shadows and outlines of monsters on the edge of your light radius. The music is also quite eerie.

Fire up The Secret World. I swear to god they had had Stephen King on speed dial, and an ouija board on hand to get Lovecraft’s take.

on Oculus Rift (VR) i’ve played Paranormal Activity and Don’t Knock Twice, both very good I thought. Putting yourself inside the game virtually adds a whole extra layer to scary games.
I had a buddy over and he played a shorter experience called Affected Manor , it’s more jump scare oriented and he finished the game with the seats and shaking. lol.
If you’re into turn-based dungeon crawlers, “Darkest Dungeon” definitely fits in the “scary” feel without actually scaring you. It focuses on the psychological horrors of adventuring. The art style is out of this world, the narration is leagues above what most AAA titles have produced, and the overal presentation is just super good.

Anonymous43I am playing a creepy version of World of Tanks
Tank voice is Latin.
Resident Evil game series. I was listening to the game soundtracks for Halloween in my car and at the club.

Diablo has the best piece of gaming music ever created
@ Can’tStumpTrump: I digged that game from the very start of it’s demo to the actual game (same goes for D2, I virtually “studied” both games). Too bad D1 can’t be played on my current machine setup anymore. I can still play D2 (and did just the other day for a laugh again) but cannot play D3 on my setup…
I'd rather die a natual death with a clear MGTOW conscience somewhere off the grid than one within "modern" civilisation with a big stress mark on my forehead and a couple of dozen tubes plugged into my body. Back to the plantation..? Me..? Hey, literally: I won't ever fucking kid myself...YZERLMNTSIC
Yes, I find it difficult to play D1 on modern computers. Even in compatibility mode with all sorts of features installed, it’s still very buggy. D2 has aged better, but the multiplayer mostly consists of bots. D3 is still receiving technical support and probably has the largest player base currently. I enjoy the gameplay, but it’s certainly not like the first two.

if you and Ned want to play it then I suggest you pic up a PS2 and get Diablo on that. It will probably cost you pennies on ebay if you really do want to play it again
If you want a game that makes your heart beat like the drums of Cannibal Corpse, I suggest you to play Alien Isolation.
Don't look back, you're not going that way.
